Where Winds Meet offers a few mini-games to take your mind off the grueling battles across the lands. During your exploration, you will meet an NPC who needs your help in debating and winning against a thief. This introduces you to the Gift of the Gab side quest, where you get to test your debate skills to win arguments in the game. Keep reading below to know how to complete the side quest and to find more debate opponents.
How to Start the Gift of Gab – Silver Tongue Side Quest
Head over to Heaven’s Pier village and speak to Song Jiu. He will reveal that his Inner Ways manual has been stolen, and he knows the culprit. You need to meet up with him at Northern Vow Ruins, and the quest will be marked on the map. Fast travel over there to find Song Jiu near some ruins. Speak to him, and he will ask for your help in a duel against the thief.
Agree to his request and accompany him to the destination while defeating enemies along the way. You will meet a large man near the river holding a Pipa. He will introduce himself as He Wanchun, who agrees to the duel. But, this is a duel of a different kind, a verbal debate. This will introduce you to the debate mini-game.
Debate Mini-Game Explained
Screen Interface explained: The bar on top of the screen shows your opponent’s mental focus. The bar at the bottom left shows yours. The bottom right corner of the screen shows how much Inspiration (we will explain what it does in a bit) you have left. At the very bottom of the screen is your deck of debate cards. Hover your cursor over them to know how much they cost and what they do.
Goal: Use your cards and options to lower your opponent’s mental focus and defeat them.
How to play: To activate your debate cards, you will require Inspiration. Your inspiration is fixed per game, and it increases each time you level up your Gift of the Gab Mastery.
When you first start the debate, you get the option to change your special ability. Click on the box right beside your character to switch abilities. Occasionally, you will receive a Contradict Card, which helps supply a buff to you and a debuff to your opponent. Always pick this card when it appears.
How to Win the Debate Mini-Game
Since this is your start at the debate mini-game, Song Jiu will guide you with some useful tips. All you need to do is select the appropriate cards that correspond to the amount of Inspiration you have. You will also get some dialog choices, read the explanations for each one and pick the ones that deal the most damage. Ultimately, you will slowly chip away at He Wanchun’s mental focus, helping you win and complete the quest.

Debating He Wanchun isn’t the only time you get to play the debate mini-game. You will also encounter NPCs to practice your debating skills and improve your mastery.
