Code Vein 2 – Metagen Remnant Boss Guide

You’ll encounter many bosses throughout your journey in Code Vein 2, and while not all of them are very challenging, there are some that are absolutely brutal. One of the hardest bosses in the early game is Metagen Remnant, a giant bird-like woman with both magic and melee attacks.

Defeating the Metagen Remnant in Code Vein 2 is no easy task, and it will require a ton of patience to fully understand its moveset. This boss is all about trial and error, so don’t feel discouraged if you have been dying a lot. For reference, it took me around 10 attempts to finally defeat the Metagen Remnant

If you’re looking to take down this giant bird once and for all, we have you covered. Here’s how to beat the Metagen Remnant in Code Vein 2.

    Finding Metagen Remnant

Players will encounter the Metagen Remnant during the main story during the “Slaying the Hero Josee” quest. The Metagen Remnant boss is found at the end of the Sunken Pylon dungeon of the Sunken City. The location of the Sunken Pylon can be found in the image attached.

The Sunken Pylon is a fairly large dungeon, arguably the biggest up to this point in the game, so don’t expect to breeze through it. The good news is that there are quite a few Mistles within the dungeon, meaning you’ll find checkpoints fairly often. This will allow you to fast-travel back to MagMell to load up on any supplies, upgrade weapons, etc.

    Metagen Remnant Moveset

The Metagen Remnant is a tricky boss, mainly due to its moveset involving both ranged and close-up attacks. Another reason why this fight is so challenging is because the boss can inflict Acid on your character, an ailment that slowly drains your health.

To help you beat the Metagen Remnant boss in Code Vein 2, we have created a table explaining its moveset below.

    MovesetDescription
FirebeamThe boss will summon a large fireball from its mouth and shoot it in a straight line. This will also cause AoE fire bursts to appear on the ground.
Aerial SlamThe boss will jump into the air toward the player and slam to the ground.
Ground SlamThe boss will raise its fists and the slam down on the ground, causing the ground to erupt.
Side SwipeThe boss will swipe its arm twice, once to the right and the next to the left.
Acid SprayThe boss will constantly release spray of Acid, inflicting the player if they get too close.
Tail SwipeIf the player attacks the boss from behind, it will swipe its tail and leap away.
Delayed SlamThe boss will swipe its arms twice, and then swipe again after a slight delay.

Take some time to study the moveset above before attempting the Metagen Remnant. Knowing what to expect will significantly increase your chances.

    How to Beat Metagen Remnant

It’s highly recommended to go into this fight with consumables that can counter the Acid status effect. Metagen Remnant deals an insane amount of damage by default, so adding passive damage on top of that is not ideal. The best consumables to counter Acid are Acid Vaccine, which boosts resistance to Acid, and Anti-Acid, which is used to cure the ailment.

The three main attacks you should look out for are its Ground Slam and Side Swipe melee attacks, and its Firebeam magic attack. Knowing how to avoid getting hit by these attacks is the key to winning this fight, considering these are the most frequently used.

For starters, the Ground Slam attack can easily be avoided by dodging toward the boss, which gives you an opportunity to get close and land a couple of attacks. As for the Side Swipe, which has the Metagen Remnant swinging its arms two times, you can avoid this by dodging into the boss twice.

It’s recommended to always dodge toward the boss, rather than away. This allows you to stay close to the boss, constantly apply pressure and deal consistent damage.

Next, we have the Firebeam magic attack, which is easily recognizable since the boss will summon a large fireball from its mouth. When this happens, run to the right to avoid the beam that shoots straight, and to avoid the red circles that appear in the arena, since these will explode and deal AoE damage.

As you’re running to the right, make your way inward toward the boss’s torso and begin attacking to deal as much damage as possible. Remember to use your Weapon Formae here for the highest damage possible.

Whenever you’re near the Metagen Remnant, there is a chance that it will use its tail to swipe you away. This can be tricky to time, but as long as you’re expecting it, it can be either parried, blocked, or dodged by rolling inward.

Remember, getting close to the Metagen Remnant will inflict you with Acid, so always be prepared to use a consumable to counter that. I recommend running away from the boss to gain some breathing room to avoid getting hit when taking the consumable. This method is also recommended for healing.

    Metagen Remnant Rewards

After beating the Metagen Remnant, players will be rewarded with the Glutton’s Eyes weapon. This weapon falls under the Rune Blades category and are two giant blades that float behind the main character.

Glutton’s Eyes is a fantastic weapon, starting with a standard attack power of 113 and Bleed Factor of 40. It has a B+ scaling in Mind for Attribute Modifiers and a 17 in Mind for Burden. The Glutton’s Eyes come with the Orbital Blade and Healing Counter Weapon Formae.

Orbital Blade sends blades spinning around the user, gradually increasing in range and mowing down anything in the area. On the other hand, Healing Counter slightly regenerates LP when an enemy attack is successfully dodged or guarded against.
