In Romeo is a Dead Man, you have a few ways to diversify your build; you have several weapons, consumables and Badges you can use throughout the adventure. The most peculiar of these systems, however, is growing Bastards to aid you in battle.
Bastards are grown in The Last Night ship, and they look like zombified Lady Gaga fans. Beyond their strange outfits, they can be a great help for certain tough encounters, but you need to grow them into full maturity for the system to matter.
If, for whatever reason, you don’t want to bother with Bastards, then the Ghost-o-Rama Badge is for you, raising your attack power by 50% if no Bastards are equipped. You can get that Badge by beating the Everyday Is Like Monday SilverSox trial.
How to Get Seeds in Romeo is a Dead Man

Seeds can be found as regular loot in the game, dropped by enemies, or sold by Shiroyabu in The Last Night; the rarity of what he sells changes as you advance through the game. The rarities of the seeds are Original, Rare and Epic. There’s also the Legendary rarity, but it can only be obtained through Fusion.
To grow a seed, it needs to first be appraised by Luna. Once appraised, a seed can’t be sold, and Luna appraises all your seeds at once. So, if you don’t want any more Original Bastards, then sell them before going to Luna.
How to Grow & Fuse Bastards in Romeo is a Dead Man

Growing a Bastard is simple, since you just need to plant it and wait ten minutes. After that, the Bastard is ready to be equipped and used in battle, although its stats will, to use the scientific term, suck. The only way to improve it at that point is to fuse it with other Bastards.
At a glance, Bastard Fusion is straightforward: pick the main Bastard, add the sacrifice, and see them fight. The resulting seed will often be a stronger version of the first Bastard you picked, although some combinations create new Bastards (this is how you get the Legendary ones). You can see all combinations in Luna’s Bastardpedia.
The stats depend on the individual Bastard, but they are always something along the lines of Cooldown, Duration and Range. The max level for all stats is 100, so while you can keep fusing a Bastard after its stats are maxed out, there is no real benefit.
While unlocking all Bastards can be a fun minigame on its own, the rarities don’t directly translate to usefulness. Even though I unlocked many “powerful” Bastards, I only ever used ManaBloom (a Rare Bastard that draws aggro) and FrostBolt (an Epic Bastard that can freeze bosses).
Bastards In Play

During play, summoning a Bastard is as easy as pressing a button, and no real resources are used (they have a simple cooldown). However, you need to be careful when you summon them, since most are very fragile.
Other than Bastards meant to be attacked, like ManaBloom or SuicideAttack, Bastards need time to perform their abilities. If you try to use FrostBolt as an enemy charges at you, chances are the Bastard will be slain before it can freeze anything.
