During Niles’ first Companion quest, “Pressing Cares”, in The Outer Worlds 2, you’ll meet Audra Baines as a part of Zebulon’s plan to rescue the Subversives. She’s the only Subversive who has survived inside the Vox Relay. Her plan is to destroy the Protectorate Ship by sacrificing herself due to her torture at their hands. You’ll have three options to pursue – refuse, accept her plan, or convince her to escape, and here’s what you should pick.
Audra’s Choices and Consequences in Outer Worlds 2

You’ll be given the option to argue with Audra on her plan to sacrifice herself to explode the Protectorate Ship through various checks, specifically Speech, Engineering, and Explosives. You can also consult with Niles on her decision to sacrifice herself. Here are the consequences of choosing every option with Audra in The Outer Worlds 2:
Refuse Audra’s Plan
If you refuse to help Audra go through with her plan to give her life to destroy the Protectorate Ship, Niles will become angry and upset with you. In this choice, Niles himself helps Audra sacrifice herself to explode the ship, so she sacrifices herself one way or the other. If you thought refusing Audra’s help would save her, you might need to reconsider your choices.
Accept Audra’s Plan
If you choose to help Audra go through with her plan, she’ll thank you and sacrifice herself to destroy the ship. You can help her brainstorm even more if you have Explosives Level 2. With this option, both Niles and Zebulon will be satisfied and at peace, since you decided to help her carry out her plan and stayed by her during her final moments. Sure, you’ll lose Audra but it’s going to be a step closer to have Niles as your Companion.
Convince Audra to Abandon the Plan and Escape
To convince Audra to abandon her plan to destroy the Protectorate Ship, you need to have Speech Level 3. You can also inform her why her plan won’t work if you have Engineering Level 4. If you pick this option, Audra won’t sacrifice herself, and instead, will come back to the escape ship with you out of the Vox Relay. As a result, Niles and Zebulon will be very happy, and thank you for convincing Audra to save herself instead of pursuing revenge blindly.
Whichever option you choose, there’s going to be no significant impact later on in The Outer Worlds 2, except the fact that getting under Niles’ good graces will take a bit longer, but you’ll have him as a Companion in the game regardless of the option you choose. However, this does not mean that there isn’t a best choice to pick here. To select the best option, here’s what you should opt for in The Outer Worlds 2.
Convince Audra to Abandon Her Plan in The Outer Worlds 2

The best choice is to convince Audra to abandon her plan in the “Pressing Cares” quest in The Outer Worlds 2. Choose the “I agree with Niles,. You shouldn’t sacrifice yourself, Audra” dialogue for this outcome. You must have Speech Level 3 to unlock this dialogue option. Picking this option will not only save Audra and have her abandon her plan to explode the Protectorate Ship with her in it, but also make Niles and Zebulon incredibly happy with the outcome. After all, you talked the last living Subversive at the Vox Relay out of sacrificing herself for blind revenge.
You will also earn bonus XP for using a skill-related conversation option, so this choice is a win-win for everyone. Even though Audra’s death does not have a major impact on the future choices in The Outer World 2, it’s best to convince her to abandon her plan to save her, and keep both Niles and Zebulon happy. If you’re planning on going through with her plan, or leaving her for roleplaying purposes, you’re free to do so.
That’s all you need to know about Audra’s choices, the consequences and the best one you should pick in The Outer Worlds 2.
