If you are looking to collect some quick rewards, then you would be on the lookout for side quests that will give you some. You can encounter several NPCs on your travels who want to use your help for their benefit. During the Go Fish quest, you will be tasked with helping Aelwin obtain some fish scales. But locating all the scales required for the task is quite a chore. This guide will simplify where to locate all scales and complete the Go Fish quest in Oblivion Remastered.
How To Complete The Go Fish Quest in Oblivion Remastered

To start the quest, head over to Weye around Lake Rumare in the Imperial City. Just cross the western drawbridge exiting the city to find a hut at the edge of the lake. There is an NPC called Aelwin Merowald who can be found wandering around the area in the early hours of the morning. He will talk about his retirement plan, but before that, he requires your help in securing twelve Rumare Slaughterfish so he can harvest the scales for sale.
Rumare Slaughterfish Location

Accept the request, then make your way north of Wawnet Inn to find a dock at the bottom of the hill. The easiest way to find Rumare Slaughterfish is to scavenge the shoreline around the lake. These fish tend to float to the surface of the water, and sometimes can be found on the lakebed too. You don’t have to go too deep into the water to find them.

To collect the scales, all you need to do is use any weapon, go near them, and then hit them a couple of times till they are dead. It is best to go fishing during the daytime, as it is easier to spot them this way. If you are still having a hard time trying to find these fish, use the Detect Life spell to search for all life around you.
Once you have collected all 12 scales, return to Aelwin in the morning to turn them in and complete the quest. In return, you will receive the Jewel of the Rumare unique ring, that applies 4 points to Fortify Athletics and also improves Water Breathing.
Go Fish Quest Bug
Many players have reported not seeing any fish for several hours. There are a few things you can try to get them to spawn.
- Try fishing in the morning, or change the time in case you are too far behind or ahead.
- While you do get a quest marker leading you to the exact location of the fish, you won’t get much here.
- Rather, keep checking around the lakebed all around Lake Rumare or around the marker to find them.
- Search for bubbles on the water’s surface, as this can indicate some fish swimming underneath.
- If you still have trouble, try to come back to the area after a day or two and wait for the fish to respawn.
- Aelwin also has his fair share of bugs, such as dying unexpectedly before you can complete or start the quest.
- To prevent that, open the gate to his hut and lure him inside, then close the gate to prevent conjurers from killing him.
- Also, he might not acknowledge that you have scales for him. Return after a day or two and interact with him during the daytime only.
- If all else fails, you can reload a previous save file and restart the quest, or quit and reload the game entirely.
