When you arrive inside the barrier in the Gothic 1 Remake, you’ll be at the very bottom of the prison’s social hierarchy, and they’ll make sure you know you are. However, just because you start at the bottom doesn’t mean you need to stay there. You can raise your reputation in Gothic 1 Remake and start to turn your fortunes around.
Below, we’ll cover how you can raise your profile in Gothic and climb out of the mud into a much more comfortable existence. It takes patience, but if you play your cards right, you can become a shot-caller and no longer need to rely on others for protection – they’ll be seeking it from you.
Earning Reputation in Gothic 1 Remake

You earn reputation in Gothic by completing quests and impressing NPCs through other means.
You’ll start the game at the Old Camp, but in time, you’ll be free to travel to the New Camp and the Swamp Camp. Regardless of where you go, you’ll still be at the bottom of the pile and will need to work your way up.
This isn’t going to happen overnight, but to improve your standing at a camp, you need to start making allies and proving your value. The easiest way to do this is to start doing favors for NPCs by completing the basic quests they set for you.
What you shouldn’t do is immediately pick a fight with the arena champion or any guards. You won’t last 30 seconds in these battles at this early stage of the game. Instead, try to complete some achievable goals that don’t require any martial prowess or lots of effort.
Luckily, these are the sort of quests the game will give you while you’re still trying to find a way into the castle. For example, the Old Camp’s cook, Snaff, will need you to find some mushrooms for his stew. If you hunt these down for him, you’ll befriend him and always have a full belly. This sort of task will improve your standing in the camp.
Becoming Important

Diego will also ask you to talk to his fellow Shadow captains, complete a task for them, and report back. Some of these tasks take a while to complete, such as one that involves infiltrating the Swamp Camp, but others can be completed in no time.
For example, one Shadow quest involves you buying a sword from another warrior. He gives you 100 nuggets and trusts you with them. Rather than keeping the money or the sword, do as he asks: Buy the sword (which ends up being 110 nuggets, just eat the cost), and return it to him. This buys you reputation and gets you one step closer to joining the ranks of the Shadows.
It’s not just that you completed the quest; you did what you said you were going to do. This can work in reverse, however. If you decide to screw over an NPC, they’ll remember, and this will damage your standing with them and that faction. So if you must act duplicitously, make sure you’re never caught.
Of course, you may choose to go to another camp. Whichever you choose, the best thing to do is to take it slow, explore the camp, chat to the named NPCs and complete the quests that you can handle in your current weak state. As you grow in power, confidence, and reputation, other quests will start feeling more achievable, and success will breed success.
