Subnautica 2 – How To Upgrade The Sonic Resonator And Craft The Feedback Resonator

The Feedback Resonator is an upgraded version of the original Sonic Resonator, and it’s something you’re going to need eventually if you want to progress in Subnautica 2. You’ll need to go on a long quest to the eastern part of the map, and dive pretty deep to find what you need to craft it, but we’ll tell you what you need to know.

To craft the Feedback Resonator in Subnautica 2, you’re going to need to scan two fragments of one that have become wrecked and lost to the deep, and then you’re going to need to gather the components to craft it. You’re going to need to have the Sonic Resonator already unlocked and have the Tadpole upgraded to Depth Module Mk I. Then you can start the journey.

    Fragment 1 Feedback Resonator Location

Before you leave your base and set off on this mission, make sure you have everything you need for a long journey into the inky depths. Once you’re confident you have, head to the Alien Power Plant. By this point in the game, you’ll have already visited this location, but it’s an ideal starting point for Fragment 1, so make your way there.

Once you’re there, swim underneath the Power Plant and swim towards the alien Angel Comb. Now head past it, going 25 degrees northeast. Look right, and you’ll eventually see something glowing green, so head towards this.

Be aware, a Leviathan is lurking nearby, but if you stay around 400 meters deep, you shouldn’t trigger its agro. You’ll find the first Feedback Resonator fragment sat next to a rock. It’ll look like a claw-like device located next to 3 blue and gold cylinders. Scan this to unlock the first blueprint.

Now look up and swim steadily higher (but not too high so that the Leviathan spots you) while heading north-east until you see a pink light. Head towards the pink light, and it’ll take you to what looks like an underwater desk.

Approach this desk, and you’ll find the second Feedback Resonator fragment on the left. Scan it, and you’ve now got the blueprints you need to craft your own, but first, we’re going to need to gather all the materials.

Now you may have already gathered all the materials you need to craft the Feedback Resonator. These are:

    • Sonic Resonator x1
    • Conduit Crystal x2
    • Enameled Glass x2
    • Strontium x2

If so, then just head over to the Modification Station and get to it. If not, you’ll need to gather these materials, and then return to base.

If you’re struggling to find any, then you can find Conduit Crystal around the Alien Power Plant, not far from where the first Feedback Resonator fragment was found.

You can craft Enameled Glass at the Fabricator by using Glass and Creature Enamal. Glass is common, but Creature Enamal can be found south of the Alien Ruins near rocky outcrops.

Strontium also needs to be crafted out of Celestine. We made a helpful guide on where to find Celestine, if that makes life easier. You can craft the Strontium at the Configure Processor.

Once you have everything you need, head back to the Modification Station and upgrade your Sonic Resonator into the Feedback Resonator.

Why upgrade to the Feedback Resonator?

The Feedback Resonator is superior to the Sonic Resonator in every way, and if we’re being honest, you’ll need to upgrade it to progress meaningfully in Subnautica 2. For example, you won’t be able to destroy Bloom Cankers without the upgrade, so the game essentially gates your progress at a certain point until you do it.

Also, the Feedback Resonator has more range than the Sonic Resonator, making it a much more useful tool all around. You shouldn’t rush to upgrade the Sonic Resonator; only take the trip once you’re able to, but once you are, then this is an upgrade you’ll benefit from for the rest of the game.
