Romeo is a Dead Man – Deadgear Cannonball Guide

Romeo is a Dead Man is a Hack and Slash game that seems more complicated than it really is. The Bastard system, for example, seems like a convoluted minion growing minigame, but it ends up being just a way for Romeo to have additional skills.

The same happens with the Deadgear Cannonball minigame, the main way Romeo can “level up,” so to speak. If you don’t pay attention to how it works, you might end up with a weaker character than expected, but it is a far less punishing system than in other games.

    Deadgear Cannonball Basics

You can access the minigame from The Last Night ship or from any of the save stations, where you’ll have to guide a little purple guy through a Pac-Man-like maze. To move the character, you need to use Emerald Flowsion, the game’s currency, as fuel. Be free to experiment how to turn the character a little, since you can always go in reverse and recover what money you spent.

Speaking of getting your money back, you can always press the Restart button at the minigame’s main menu. This will, of course, remove all upgrades you’ve acquired. But it can let you plan a better (and therefore cheaper) route for whatever build you’re going for.

Finally, you’ll notice several portals at the sides of the stage. These take you to its corresponding portal on the opposite side, making it a key part of planning your route. Use the free camera to scout what you want, and where you’ll end up.

    IconUpgrade
    SwordRaises melee attack
    PistolRaises ranged attack
    HeartRaises health
    Pill BoxGives an additional Regenetizer
    PillRaises Regenetizer health recovery
    BulletsRaises reload speed
    HandsRaises aiming speed
Blood VialGives an additional Bloody Summer charge
Blood DropletRaises Bloody Summer health recovery

As you can see from the main menu, the icons you find during the Deadgear Cannonball minigame correspond to several improvements for Romeo. These are:

Three out of four weapon upgrades are about ranged weapons, which to me, feels like a trap. Weapons can be upgraded through other means, and ranged ones are the least used during the game; your real focus should be on upgrading health and Bloody Summer.

Among the health options, the key one is Regenetizer Carry Limit UP. This is the “Estus Flask” of the game, and while it healing more or you having more health is nice, having more Regenetizers is the best way to survive the game.

For Bloody Summer, you want to find the Blood Charge Capacity UP icons, of which there are only two. This changes your damage output and survivability drastically, making it ideal to focus your entire pathing in getting them.
