Managing the skill tree opens up a different playstyle catered to your liking. Dying Light: The Beast allows the player to choose the skills that they see fit to create the best version of Crane to put up against the horde of zombies. If you are just starting out, here are some of the best skills to unlock early in Dying Light: The Beast.
Skill System Explained in Dying Light: The Beast

Dying Light: The Beast has four skill categories to upgrade for Crane: Power, Agility, Survival, and lastly, the newly introduced Beast. This skill tree acts a bit differently from the other three in terms of how you gain points to level up skills in these categories.
You can level up your Power, Agility, and Survival skills by gaining experience from performing various activities in the game, and also by leveling up Crane. Levelling the Beast skill tree requires you to get your hands dirty by first defeating the Chimera bosses all around the map and collecting their blood sample from their corpses. Once you kill and collect Chimera samples, you gain a single Beast skill point.
Let’s look at which skills you should prioritize unlocking first when playing Dying Light: The Beast. We will go skill category-wise, starting with the Power Skills.
Best Power Skills to Prioritize In Dying Light: The Beast

Dropkick (Requires 1 Point): The core skill of any Dying Light game, it’s an incredibly powerful move early on in the game. You can perform a dropkick in the air, and the zombie’s faces will not be the same afterwards.
Charged Kick (Requires 1 Point): You can only acquire it after unlocking the fan-favorite Dropkick. Comes in handy as you will dish out more damage from a simple kick while using less stamina than Dropkick.
Efficient Fighting Skill (Requires 2 Point): It goes without saying that a survival game takes a toll on weapon durability. No matter how many times you upgrade your weapon, it’s prone to breaking. Efficient Fighting makes the weapon durability last longer, so you will go for a long time without having to repair it in the middle of combat.
Whirlwind (Requires 3 Points): Spin around with your weapon and hit the zombies around you. Another close-range AoE damage skill, but with your melee. You can certainly use it to create some space around you and zombies to get some breathing room.
Later, you can focus on Head Stomp, Power Shot, and Advanced Reload.
Best Survival Skills to Prioritize In Dying Light: The Beast

Stealth Expert Skill (Requires 1 Point): Stealth kills are the essential way to conserve precious resources in a survival game. In Dying Light: The Beast, stealth kills are the best way to deal with zombies that are unaware, and Stealth Expert will make them even harder to notice you. It will allow you to kill most zombies in the area without any of them getting a sight of your location.
Flamethrower(Requires 1 Point): A perfect weapon to have for crowd control at close range. You will need around Scraps x100, Weights x 10, Oxidizers x3, and Fuel x1 to craft the weapon.
Grenade Launcher(Requires 2 Points): Another great weapon for AoE damage. It acts the opposite of Flamethrower; it is more suited for medium-range crowd control.
Camouflage(Requires 3 Points)– Use the zombie’s remains to make them stop noticing you. Perfect if you are low on health and have to pass through a zombie-infested area. Just killing one zombie and using its remains as a mask to avoid zombies. Suitably gory and effective.
Other skills here you should unlock later on are: Advanced Grenades, which allows for crafting Flash/ Pipe/ Gas grenades. And an Efficient Driving & Collision Expert to increase your driving skills.
Best Agility Skills to Prioritize In Dying Light: The Beast

Active Landing Skill (Requires 1 Point): Falling from a high spot is bread and butter for every game that allows you to perform parkour. Dying Light is no different; Active Landing allows you to lower the fall damage when you fall. While you will take some damage, it will be enough to allow you to move without stopping everything. The best skill to add a smoother flow to the parkour without breaking it.
Dash (Requires 1 Point): A perfect skill if you like the cat-and-mouse part of Dying Light. When you want to make a run from zombies, Dash will allow you to move even faster, but at the cost of Stamina. You need to have Stamina to pull the dash move while running.
Bash (Requires 2 Points): The best running tactic move, you will not be stopped by zombies blocking your way. Now, you can bash your way to the other side by going through zombies. Bash and Active Landing serve a core function of helping you keep the momentum of the parkour without slowing you down.
Enemy Jump (Requires 2 Points): Allows you to leap off zombies, another skill that appeals to the parkour aspect of the gameplay. But you need to be in a state of dashing to jump off the enemy’s head.
Other skills you prioritize here are Vault Kick, Afterboost, and Parkour Shot.
Best Beast Skills to Prioritize In Dying Light: The Beast
- Beast Conquered (Requires 2 Points): When you enter the Beast mode, you will let out a scream that can stun the zombies around you. The skill also helps raise the Beast mode resource gathering and increases the duration of the mode.
- Beast Controlled (Requires 2 Points): Enter the Beast mode state manually by inputting a button instead of automatically.
- Beast Unleashed (Requires 2 Points): Gain health while attacking zombies with Beast mode on.
- Apex Predator (Requires 3 Points): Enter the Beast mode with the bar half-full.
Overall, the game has a plethora of options to tune your game to perfection. The game rewards exploration with amazing side quests that tell a deeper tale of the people caught up in the zombie apocalypse. Check our guide here on the Last Wish quest.
