Far Far West – The Complete Willy Billy Questline

Plenty of folks need your help across the Far Far West, offering new areas and skins for a bit of assistance. Their quests can be a bit esoteric, and Willy Billy in the Far West has a couple of confusing quests, especially his second.

To avoid any mistakes, we’ll be going step by step through the questine! Without further ado, let’s help Willy Billy find his tools, his lost engine, and set up his prized Gatling Gun!

    Lost Tools

Like every quest in Far Far West, you’ll need to activate Billy’s Questline by talking with Willy Billy at his shack in the northeast edge of the Far West.

Speak with Billy, and you’ll be able to accept any of his three quests. It should be noted that only one quest can be accepted and completed per NPC each run. If two NPCs are offering quests on the map, like the Train Conductor and Willy Billy, you can do both, but only one per quest giver.

Willy Billy’s first quest is very simple: run around the Far West and collect three bundles of his tools. Each is marked on the map, but we’ll go over exactly where to pick up each.

    Finding Willy Billy’s Tools

The first tool pile is directly to the south of Billy’s shack. Hop over the river and continue south until you spot a hill with a shoddy wooden construct on top of a hill. At the base of the construct is the first pile of tools, lying across a box.

The second tool bundle is inside the haunted church, positioned by the northeastern lake on the map. Enter the church and walk to the back of the room. The tools are leaning against the back left corner, ready for collection.

Head further to the northeast, to the very shore of the Far West for the final bundle of Willy Billy’s tools. You’ll find it in the middle of a ruined town, beside a damaged wagon. Make sure to clear the area, as the surrounding areas can be filled with Cryptics.

After you’ve spellslung the last of the nasties out of the area, grab the tool pile to complete Willy Billy’s first quest!

    The Precious Engine

Once you accept the quest, Willy Billy will mark the location of his trusty shovel on your map. Head over to it’s position outside of the mines in the southwestern corner of the Far West to begin the quest proper!

The mines also hold multiple gold deposits, you can either blow them up or use the pickaxes buried inside to chip them apart. These gold deposits are stellar bonus sources of gold, especially on higher difficulties. It’s worth breaking each as you find it.

    Finding and Using the Shovel

Now, this is the part that can be easy to mess up if you’re occupied as you enter the area, like if you’re being chased by Cryptics.

Once you approach the shovel’s general location, the map icon will vanish. If you weren’t paying close attention to the location, you could get lost and totally lose the shovel itself.

Luckily, the shovel itself is buried vertically atop a pile of rocks with a bright light emanating from its tracker. Approach the shovel and hold your interact key to pick it up, replacing your primary weapon.

While holding it, the Shovel’s GPS will relay how far from the engine you are. Head to the northeast of the Shovel’s initial location, following the GPS’s hint until you arrive at a pile of disturbed stone and dirt.

This is where you’ll use your fire button to dig, slowly uncovering the engine over a couple of attempts. Do note that the shovel cannot be used as a weapon, so make sure to drop it and keep a mental note of its location if you need to defend yourself.

Once the engine is uncovered, the quest will pop! Just make sure you successfully extract at the end of the mission, or your quest progress won’t be saved. I’d recommend doing a quick run on easy for most quests, but especially this one, as enemies can easily get in your way as you’re trying to dig up the engine.

For Willy Billy’s final quest, he’s getting hands on. Billy requests that you escort him across the map to the southeastern side. There, atop a hill, he plans to prepare a little surprise for the Cryptics in the area.

Luckily, ‘escorting’ Billy just means heading over the area he has marked on your map. Billy can’t take damage, and will always slowly follow you, no matter the distance. Once you arrive at the hill, the fun begins.

    Defend Willy Billy

Billy will approach the nearby windmill and begin working on it, requesting your support. You’ll need to keep the oncoming Storm of Cryptics off of Billy while he works. While he still can’t take damage, any Cryptic attacking Billy will halt his progress.

The Storm is standard fare, so try running the quest on a lower difficulty if you’re afraid of wiping to the horde. Once you’ve defended him for just under a minute, the Gatling Gun installed on the windmill will come online, and will permentaly provide support against any enemies near it.

For clearing all of Willy Billy’s quests, you unlock him as a skin in the shop, and the Woodlands map to explore! Throw on your new digs and get back out there, cowpoke, the West needs you!
