8 Games That Deserve a Remake

In a time where remakes seem to be getting made left and right, there are a ton of games from the past that haven’t received that treatment yet. A game is worthy of a remake when it leaves a lasting impression on the gaming community and is still talked about years, or even decades, later.

Even though there are arguably hundreds of games out there that deserve to be remade with modern graphics and controls, there’s no way to fit them all here into this list. In that case, we will be discussing games that deserve it the most due to their legacy and still being talked about today.

For this list, we will be delving into the top 8 games that deserve a remake. Even though half of them is very unlikely to happen, it’s safe to say that any of these titles would be a massive hit again if built from the ground up.

    Silent Hill 3

If you asked me a few years ago, I would have said that there is no way we’d be getting a remake of any Silent Hill game. However, Bloober Team put my concerns to rest, as it went on to release the remake of Silent Hill 2. It not only turned out to be incredible, giving the original justice, but I would go as far to say it is one of the best survival-horror games ever made. After its success, Bloober Team has recently announced it will be remaking the original Silent Hill, too.

While that is all fine and good, since the first Silent Hill definitely needs a remake, Silent Hill 3 deserves the same treatment. The third entry into the iconic franchise has some of the most disturbing storytelling in the horror genre, and to see it fully realized with modern technology would be nothing short of a dream. Here’s hoping that Bloober Team moves onto Silent Hill 3 after its upcoming remake of the original.

    Resident Evil: Code Veronica X

    Code Remake

The Resident Evil series is still going strong, 30 years after the initial release of the original. There have been plenty of remakes to come out including a remake of the original, its sequel, the third, and most recently, Resident Evil 4. While it seems like Capcom is focusing on remaking the series’ numbered games, it hasn’t given any love to its secondary titles that are integral to the story of the franchise.

A remake for Resident Evil: Code Veronica is long overdue as it’s considered by many to be one of the best Resident Evil games to date. However, a lot of time has passed since its release and the graphics are outdated, controls feel clunky, and the exposure to modern technology has degraded the fun factor of playing it for many of its fans. I would love to see a remake of Code Veronica done the same way as the other Resident Evil remakes.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

The First Real 3D Zelda Adventure

The Legend of Zelda franchise has been around for a very long time, first beginning all the way back in 1986. There have been over 30 entries into this iconic series, but there is no denying that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one of the best. It was the first Zelda game to go fully 3D, bringing the dungeon-crawling gameplay and beautiful lands of Hyrule to life. It’s the Zelda game that showed everyone just how serious Nintendo was about the franchise

Ocarina of Time is still regarded by some as the most influential Zelda game, even after the releases of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, two games that went on to be nominated for game of the year. While it still stands as a phenomenal game, Ocarina of Time feels very outdated due to the technology advancement in the gaming industry, so a remake is long overdue.

    Chrono Trigger

    JRPG Masterpiece

If you’re a die-hard fan of JRPGs, then there is a strong chance you have played, or at least heard, of Chrono Trigger. Even though the game released all the way back in 1995, it is still known by many as one of, if not the best, JRPG of all time. Chrono Trigger is well known for its replay value, incredible soundtrack, easy to understand gameplay, and fantastic story with emotional beats. There’s almost nothing wrong with the game, hence why people call it one of the best.

Square Enix has made a ton of great games over the years, but nothing hits quite as much as Chrono Trigger. Luckily, there are rumors swirling around the internet that states a remake of Chrono Trigger is in the works, but that’s the thing, they are only just rumors. Hopefully we get a confirmation soon since a remake of this game would be one of the greatest things to happen for the fans.

    ICO

This Classic Needs a New Life

ICO was one of the greatest games released for the PlayStation 2, having some of the most beautiful art design on the console. While the gameplay itself was basic, the storytelling elements and puzzles were so deep and complex, even by today standards. The gameplay being so simple is exactly the reason why this game deserves a modern remake, where the gameplay can be enhanced to be more engaging and thought provoking to make the overall product better.

The chances of ICO ever being remade is slim to none, especially since the developers behind the remake of Shadow of the Colossus (which was originally made by the same developers of ICO) Bluepoint Games has been shut down by Sony. The good news is the creator of ICO, Fumito Ueda, is currently working on a new project deemed “Project Robot.” Hopefully it is as good as ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.

    3

    Dino Crisis

    A Fan Favorite

The second Capcom franchise to appear on this list, Dino Crisis, is a franchise that is well overdue for a remake. Dino Crisis is well known for its take on the survival horror genre, as it includes some of Capcom’s greatest puzzles, exploration, and of course, terrifying dinosaurs. Unfortunately, the games don’t look very good, and use the classic tank controls, making them the perfect candidate to get remade with modern eyes. For reference, the last Dino Crisis released over 20 years ago.

20 years is a long time, and we still haven’t heard anything from Capcom about a new Dino Crisis or remake. While we have received a spiritual successor of Dino Crisis in the form of Code Violet, a game developed by Teamkill Media, it unfortunately didn’t live up to the hype in any way, shape or form. Out of all the survival horror games to be made, a Dino Crisis remake is in highest demand.

    2

    Final Fantasy X

    Tidus and Friends

Plenty of Final Fantasy games have released over the years, and if we’re being honest, all of them deserve a remake. However, the entry that deserves it the most is Final Fantasy X, one of the best JRPGs of all time. Square Enix has done a phenomenal job with the remake of Final Fantasy 7, bringing a whole new combat system, changes in story, and beautiful graphics, and it would be amazing to see them give the same treatment to the 10th mainline entry.

While majority of the stories told in the Final Fantasy games are great, nothing really holds a candle to Final Fantasy X. The story of Tidus, Aaron, Yuna on a quest to stop Sin is filled with emotional moments, sudden twists, and a narrative that will keep you hooked from beginning to end. Maybe one day we will see this story told from a modern perspective with updated graphics and mechanics.

    Bloodborne

    The One Everyone Wants

FromSoftware is known for making banger after banger, but one of its most popular games is Bloodborne. A remake for this game is arguably the most requested among the gaming community, as it is talked about constantly in the chats for PlayStation State of Plays, Reddit forums, and numerous articles across the internet. It was recently revealed that Bluepoint games pitched the idea, and Sony approved. However, FromSoftware did not.

With the recent closure of Bluepoint Games, a developer that would do this dark fantasy justice, just like how they did great with Demon’s Souls, it seems like a remake of Bloodborne is farther than it’s ever been. Unfortunately, we can still hope for a remake, but if FromSoftware keeps protecting the IP like it’s its baby, we most likely will never get one. I would even settle for a remaster of Bloodborne, or an official port to PC, but that too doesn’t seem likely.
