You’re probably going to die in Windrose. I know I’ve died several times, both on land and at sea. Each time you die, a death marker is placed at that location, letting you return and collect any items you had that were dropped if you lost something important. The marker also appears on your map, making retrieval a straightforward process.
Unfortunately, since Windrose is an Early Access game and not yet perfect, there’s a bug with death markers that are preventing them from being properly removed from your map. Alternatively, you may want to remove a marker if you have no intention of going back to recover what you lost as a result of that death.
The Standard Way to Remove a Death Marker

Usually, you’ll remove a death marker by going to its location and finding a fancy cache that’s been placed there. When you’re close enough and have the space in your inventory for all the items it contains, you can interact with the cache to break it and automatically collect everything from it.
Dying at sea is more-or-less the same. You’ll leave behind a cache that’s marked on your map, but this time, you can collect it while on your ship the same way you can collect the random barrels floating around.
Remove a Marker Without Going to It
If you don’t want to bother returning to a death marker because there’s nothing worth collecting, or the marker isn’t being properly removed from your map after you collect it, then you’ll need to remove it yourself in a more roundabout way.

Depending on how much time you’ve spent using the map, you might’ve realized that you can interact with it and place your own markers for anything you feel like tracking that isn’t automatically tracked on the map, or in the event that you have map tracking for quests turned off.
In this case, you can simply select the death marker on your map and choose to remove it that way. The cache will remain until you die a few more times, but you won’t be bothered by the constant direction to go collect your items, letting you instead focus on the markers you care more about in Windrose.
