Black Myth: Wukong is a game that’s all about the unique boss fights. One of the main bosses you’ll face in Chapter 1 of the game is called the Black Wind King. Since you’ll face the boss relatively early in the game, it might come across as a lot more challenging than it is in reality. But you don’t have to worry; we’ve got you covered.
In this guide, we’ll give you a complete rundown of everything you need to know about defeating the Black Wind King in Black Myth: Wukong.
Where To Find The Black Wind King
The Black Wind King is an unmissable boss since you’ll have to defeat him to progress through the story. You will find the boss in the Black Wind Cave area. Head through the tunnel and follow it to the end, and you’ll see the Black Wind King waiting for you.
Before the boss room, you’ll also find a Keeper’s Shrine to heal up and prepare for the coming fight.
The Black Wind King Boss Fight Overview
As far as the boss battles go in Black Myth: Wukong, the Black Wind King is a fairly straightforward boss. Here’s a general overview of what you can expect from the battle:
- The Black Wind King’s attacks deal both physical and fire damage. Equipping high-defense outfits will help you tank his damages better.
- The boss will often turn into the black wind and teleport around the arena. The wind can damage you, so try to avoid it as much as possible.
- You can cast Immobilize to stop the boss during transformation to prevent it.
- The boss always materializes in the center of the arena after his transformation ends. Use this window to charge up a strong attack from a distance.
Black Wind King’s Attack Patterns
Learning the boss’s attack patterns will make it easier for you to react to them. Here are the Black Wind King’s attacks:
- Jump and Double Spin: The most common move that the Black Wind King will use is he’ll jump up in the air and come down with a spear thrust. He will also follow up with two spin attacks. After the first attack, you can usually go in for a quick attack and follow up with a perfect dodge if you time it right.
- Black Wind: This is the Boss’s signature move, in which he turns into a black wind and moves around the arena. The boss becomes invulnerable during this time, so focus on dodging it. Casting Immobilize before he transforms will force him out of the transformed state.
- Air Burst: After the Black Wind transformation ends, the boss materializes in the center of the arena, causing a huge explosion. Staying out of the AOE will keep you safe from it.
- Six-hit Combo: If you see the boss focusing black wind on his spear, that means he’s gearing up for a long combo. The first two attacks are quick, but he pauses for a moment before the third hit with the overhead strike. It’s further followed up with three quick strikes. The attack also creates ranged projectiles that you’ll need to dodge.
- Vanishing and Spear Throw: Sometimes, during the fight, the boss creates an illusion of himself and turns into black wind. Keep your eyes peeled, as he can throw spears while invisible.
- Four-hit Combo with Spear Vault: In addition to the six-hit combo, the boss also has a four-hit combo that he starts by thrusting his spear into the ground and jumping in the air. He will deal damage in a wide AOE around him mid-air, and an explosion will also occur while landing. It’s best to get some distance while he uses this move.
- Fire Breath: If you see the Black Wind King lifting his gourd to take a drink, dodge to the side. This is when he’ll do a fire breath attack in a wide sweep in front of him.
- Healing: The Black Wind King also has a healing ability that he’ll use multiple times during the fight. However, if you manage to hit him while he drinks from his gourd, you can interrupt this ability.
How To defeat The Black Wind King In Black Myth Wukong
When you enter the boss arena, you’ll have a couple of moments while the Black Wind King taunts you. Use this window to close in and set him on fire using your Red Tides transformation. Get as much damage as possible, and keep an eye out for his combo attacks.
Dodging is your best friend in the game, and most of the boss’s attacks can be perfectly dodged. So learn the attack timings, use stamina efficiently, and get as many hits as possible while keeping yourself clear of his attacks.
If you see the boss transforming, use Immobilize. This will cause him to rematerialize, and you can get a good chunk of damage when he’s frozen.
The boss gets staggered easily, even with a single light hit combo. Occasionally, you can charge a heavy attack using your Focus points to break him out of his combo.
Keep an eye out for whenever the boss tries to heal. This isn’t a difficult fight, but that doesn’t mean you should let it drag on any longer than it has to.
