In Oblivion, you can be a rampaging warrior crushing skulls on your way, or you can be an elemental wizard leaving a trail of fire behind. A sorcerer is never an overlooked class, since it offers way too much destruction and magical trickery to leave enemies in a state of confusion. Here in this guide, we will focus on creating the best Sorcerer Build for Oblivion Remastered.
Best Race for Sorcerer Build

High Elf
Anybody who has played the original has seen this coming. High Elf is the best choice for a Sorcerer build. If you’re looking for the reason why we went with High Elf instead of others, here’s why:
- +100 Magicka
- 50 Intelligence
These two will boost your magic capability to oblivion. But picking a race comes with its fair share of downsides, Here, you will be dealing with weakness to fire, frost, and shock. That’s a tradeoff you must go through to get the best magic race in the game. The weakness from the High Elf class can be canceled out by wearing proper Robes or other enchanted gear.
However, if you feel that the downside is not worth taking early on, a Breton or a Dark Elf is a decent second choice for a sorcerer build.
Best Birthsign for Sorcerer Build

The Apprentice
We will choose the Apprentice over others for the Birthsign for our Sorcerer’s Build. The bonus of this Birthsign will greatly influence our magic-focused gameplay.
- Raises Magicka by 100 Pts
- Susceptibility to magic is 100%.
If what you are looking for is damage to your Magicka build, then Apprentice makes more sense, as it raises Magicka by 100 points, which will further amplify our High Elf race bonus. Other choices for Birthsign include The Mage, which only raises the Magicka by 50 pts. The sacrifice is not worth the investment compared to the Apprentice’s bonus. Another risky choice here would be to choose Atronach, but you will be unable to regenerate Magicka, which is a bullet you don’t want to bite in the middle of the combat.
Best Skills For Sorcerer Build

Attributes: Choose Intelligence and Willpower to make the Magicka build stronger. Since both of these attributes greatly influence your Magica regeneration and damage dealing. Another attribute that you could focus on is Luck, since it influences everything in the game.
Combat Skills – The major skills here would be Restoration/ Conjuration/ Destruction/ Illusion/ Mercantile/ Mysticism/ Light Armor or Security. Since we are running on Magicka focus skills, all the skills should be spell-focused. The name of the game here is to choose the skill that you would want to use in the game and skip over the rest.
Light Armor has the least penalty to your magic damage output, as you start equipping medium and heavy armor, the penalties keep increasing. Hence, Light Armor should be what you stick to when playing as a Sorcerer.
Best Weapon for Sorcerer Build
The Apotheosis staff is your best option for a great all-rounder of a weapon for the Sorcerer. It’s going to cost you 3500 gold, You can buy it at Rindir’s Staffs at the Market District of Imperial City. The reason why this Staff rules over the other is the added damage to Fire, Frost and Shock spells, which are going to be your default attack choices.
Once you progress in the game, you can focus on unique staffs, one of which is Wabbajack, a daedric staff with its own unique enchantment.
Best Armor for Sorcerer Build

Here, focus on any robe with good Magicka Regeneration and Resistance. The best choice here would be the Robe of the Conjurer.
Robe of the Conjurer
- Fortifies Attribute – Intelligence and Willpower by 2 pts.
- Fortifies Skills – Conjuration and Destruction by 2 pts.
A solid choice, but the robe is a reward item for completing Vahtacen’s Secret quest given by Raminus Polus. After joining the Mages Guild, you will get this quest after completing a few Mage Guild requests or quests.
Best Ring and Amulet for Sorcerer Build
Rings:
- Ring of Wizardry: (Best Choice) It fortifies 10 points to Alchemy, Alteration, Conjuration, Destruction, Illusion, Mysticism, and Restoration.
- Mundane Ring: Which offers 35% Reflect Spell and 50% Magic Resistance
- Sorcerer’s Ring: While not as good as Ring of Wizardry, it offers 25% Spell Absorption and fortifies Magicka by 25 Pts.
These three are the best Rings for the Sorcerer build. Another ring that you could try out is the Ring of Perfection, an all-rounder, as it fortifies all attributes by 10 pts without focusing on any single one of them. If you want just a pure Magicka ring, then you can pick from all three mentioned above.
Amulets:
Necromancer’s Amulet: Drains Strength and Endurance but Fortifies Willpower, Intelligence, Conjuration, and Magicka.
Note: Once you cross over Level 25, the fortification of Magicka goes up to 130 points instead of a mere 30 during Level 2.
One of the most powerful Amulets, but can only be obtained after completing the quest “Confront the King” in the Mages Guild questline. If you have played the original Oblivion, then you must have known the Amulet has to be given up, but in the Oblivion Remastered, it can be obtained after the quest Confront the King.
