As you wrap up your adventures in Chapter 1 of Black Myth: Wukong, you will face the Black Bear Guai as your final barrier to reaching Chapter 2. This is a continuation of your previous fight with the Black Wind King as he runs off on top of the summit where he transforms into his final form as none other than the Black Bear Guai. Here is everything you need to do if you want to come out as the winner and defeat Black Bear Guai in Black Myth: Wukong.
How to Prepare for Black Bear Guai Boss Fight in Black Myth Wukong
Black Bear Guai in Black Myth: Wukong uses a lot of fire-based attacks that can apply the burning status effect on you and require you to spam dodge to put it out. This can make the fight considerably difficult as you will waste a lot of your stamina trying to put yourself out instead of using it for actually dodging attacks. So, here is what you need to do in preparation for it
Unlock and Use the Fireproof Mantle
There is a secret “Three Bells” quest in Chapter 1 that can unlock the Fireproof Mantle which can be used to negate fire damage upon its activation. To complete this quest, you must find and ring all three bells scattered around the regions of Chapter 1.
Here is how you can find each of the three bells:
- Bell #1: Found in the arena where you defeat Yaoguai Chief Guangzhi and obtain the Red Tides Transformation Spell.
- Bell #2: In the arena where you defeat Yaoguai Chief Guangmou, follow the path going up to the cave and you can find the bell on this path.
- Bell #3: Defeat Whiteclad Noble then head along the main path which will lead you to the final bell you need to ring.
When you ring the last and final bell, even if you did it in a random order, you will be teleported to a memory of Sun Wukong and start a secret boss fight against Elder Jinchi. Defeating this boss will reward you with the Fireproof Mantle. This will greatly help in our final Chapter 1 boss fight against Black Bear Guai in Black Myth Wukong by negating his powerful fire attacks.
How To Defeat Black Bear Guai in Black Myth Wukong
Considering you have already done the obvious things like upgrading your Gourd and investing Spark Points into some skills, you are now ready to fight the Black Bear Guai with the Fireproof Mantle equipped. Let’s look at the strategy you need to apply for this two-phased boss fight.
Phase 1 Strategy
Remember that Black Bear Guai is the final form of Black Wind King, so he will still retain the ability to cloud-step which allows him to turn into a cloud and reappear in another location. However, you should also use the cloud step that you got for defeating Black Wind King.
Using the Immobilization Spell is a great way to get in some quick burst damage for any boss fights for that matter but you have to be careful with it for Black Bear Guai because if you use Immobilization during the time he turns into a cloud using cloud-step, the spell will fail so make sure you time it correctly in this fight. The same applies to when he is doing some of his airborne attacks.
Black Bear Guai does a lot of combo attacks by combining attacks in a chain like the claw attack into swiping attacks into another slamming attack. Your best approach here is to wait for him to get his combos off and only hit him once his combo has ended. Even so, this will be a small opening before he barrels into another set of combos so don’t get greedy during the opening and only get a few hits in before moving back to a safe space.
There is one move that the Black Bear Guai does where he jumps and body slams the ground with full force which leaves him lying on his back. This is the only opening in the phase 1 fight where you can get a whole light attack combo done or do a charged heavy attack as he stays down for a long time. If you don’t have a focus point, do a full light attack combo to gain one and if you already have one then do a charged heavy attack which will deal some devastating damage.
Phase 2 Strategy
The second phase of the Black Bear Guai boss fight in Black Myth Wukong will start when his health drops below 50%. There isn’t much difference between this phase and the previous one except now the Black Bear Guai will deal fire damage with his attacks.
This is where our initial preparation for completing the “Three Bells” quest comes into play. You should now activate the Fireproof Mantle that you gained from defeating Elder Jinchi which will make you immune to the burning status effect which normally requires you to dodge a bunch of times to get rid of which also wastes a lot of your stamina.
However, the effects of the Fireproof Mantle do not last forever so make use of that time and be as aggressive as you can be. The same formula of letting him do his combos while you wait for an opening applies to this phase as well. Even though you do have fire protection, you can still get hit and lose health via physical damage so stay cautious even when you are being aggressive.
During Phase 2, Black Bear Guai will do a similar attack from the Black Wind King fight where he transforms into a mist and rushes you suddenly with an attack. You will need to be very mindful of this one as it can deal a lot of damage, so time your dodge correctly. Unlike the cloud-step move, however, you can interrupt this attack with the Immobilization Spell when he turns into the mist which can give you a massive opening considering you have enough mana to use it again.
