When you come across Gold in Starsand Island, it might be the first ore you find that you’re unable to mine with your Impulse Pickaxe. If you try to mine Gold with you, a message pops up that says you need a higher level tool in order to get Gold. However, it doesn’t tell you which tool that is.
I spent too long looking for another pickaxe blueprint that would let me harvest Gold. It turns out that this isn’t the correct answer. Instead, you need a tool that isn’t a pickaxe, but is still an upgrade from your pickaxe. Because this isn’t a normal tool progression, I didn’t even think to look at the hammer.
Starsand Island – Craft the Impact Hammer
Instead of another version of a pickaxe, the Impact Hammer is the upgrade for the Impulse Pickaxe. You need the Worktable II to craft it, as well as the blueprint from Zerine’s General Store. Then, you need:
- 4 Iron Sheets
- 3 Bronze
- 4 Hardwood Planks
- 2 Radiant Crystals
- 1 Impulse Pickaxe
Once you have the Impact Hammer, you can use it to harvest Gold by hitting the ground by the nodes. As an added bonus, the hammer deals damage in an area, so you can mine multiple nodes at once if they’re close together.
Starsand Island – Finding Gold Ore
You’ll only find Gold in Moonlit Forest, which you have to unlock at the beginning of the crafter main quests by meeting Zephyria and getting a Slingshot. The problem is that Gold isn’t in the early areas where you find Copper, Tin, Quartz, and Fluorite.
Specifically, you’ll start finding Gold around the Crystalith Hideout. Then, you’ll continue to find it deeper in the Moonlit Forest from that point. If you plan on making Gold Ingots, then you’ll need to use Coal for it in the Furnace just like with Iron. Luckily, you can mine Coal in similar areas as Gold, so be sure to stop and pick some up while you’re there.
With that, you can head back to your home with your Gold and process it into whichever form you might need in order to complete your tasks in Starsand Island.
