Starsand Island is a life sim with farming elements, and you’ll burn through resources every day on the island. Because crafts tend to build on each other and become more complicated, there are certain resources that you want to keep in storage so that you always have them when you need them.
These materials are used in most of the early recipes you craft, and you’ll often need them for higher crafts as part of the components. I’ve spent most of my time in-game crafting, and these are the top items that I seem to never have enough of when I’m creating items.
Softwood and Hardwood

These are two of the earliest materials you collect. Softwood can be picked up from the ground or gathered by chopping down small trees, such as the Weeping Fig.
Hardwood is gathered by chopping down larger trees, such as the Banyan.
These will be used as they are, but also made into planks. Additionally, Softwood is part of the recipe for creating Charcoal in the Charcoal Kiln. So, you’ll have no shortage of need for these items.
Iron and Copper

These are the first two ores you mine, and you’ll continue to need them even as later ore becomes available. Not only will you be smelting them into ingots, their ingots are part of crafting Bronze and other items.
Copper can be mined to the south of your house around the entrance to the Moonlit Forest, but you’ll also find it in the Moonlit Forest, particularly the beginning areas.
Iron is found a bit deeper inside the Moonlit Forest, but it won’t take you long to be able to reach it. From there, you’ll want to make sure you have both of these items available if you want to save time when you’re crafting for quests and errands later.
Fluorite

Fluorite is found in the Moonlit Forest. It’s from the rocks that have yellow-ish crystals attached to them. While it doesn’t seem like it’s used for much, you need it to repair Moonweavers in the forest so that you can teleport to additional locations.
You’ll also use it as a component for Radiant Cores, which are generally part of crafts that create a luminous object, such as a lamp. These are required for one of the crafting main quests, so it doesn’t hurt to pick them up early and have extras for errands.
Coal

Not to be confused with Charcoal, Coal is a resource that you’ll use for higher-level metals, such as Iron, when you turn the ore into ingots using the furnace. Unlike Charcoal, you have to mine Coal from the middle sections of the Moonlit Forest. Luckily, you can gather a decent amount from a run into the Moonlit Forest.
Food

Any type of food will do here, whether it’s just mushrooms and berries you picked up, full meals purchased from town, or dishes you cooked yourself.
Food restores stamina, and some items give you HP back or buffs. While you might not use a lot of stamina right away, it starts draining quickly when you’re doing tasks such as mining and fishing. It’s also great to have on hand if you end up passing out because you didn’t reach a bed to sleep in by 2AM, as you’ll start with half of your stamina the next day.
With these resources stocked up in your storage boxes, you’ll be more prepared for both quests and errands. Additionally, you’ll save time when you have to craft specific items if you already have the basic resources prepared ahead of time in Starsand Island.
