In Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, setting up the perfect team is the key to victory. And the game gives you plenty of options when building the Nahobino and your Demons. You’ll be able to equip your Demons with different skills even when they don’t have the right affinity for the element.

But that doesn’t mean you should equip skills without a plan. SMTV: Vengeance uses a mechanic called Skill Potential that determines how efficient the Demon will be at using a specific skill element. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. In this guide, we’ll break everything down into digestible bits and help you understand what is Skill Potential in Shin Megami Tensei V : Vengeance. Let’s get started.

What is Skill Potential in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance

Skill Potential in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance - What Does it Do?

The Skill Potential in SMTV Vengeance affects your MP cost when you cast a certain skill. It’s represented by a positive or negative number under one of the elements in the Skill Potential Tab, such as +3 or -3.

If the number is positive, then skills that correspond with that element will cost lower MP to use. Inversely, when the Skill Potential is negative, it will cost a higher MP to cast. The highest a Skill Potential can go to is +9, which means casting a skill corresponding to that element will cost you 9 less MP to cast. The lowest value, on the other hand, is -7, which increases the MP cost by 7.

The elements available in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance are:

    • Physical
    • Fire
    • Ice
    • Lightning
    • Force
    • Light
    • Dark
    • Almighty
    • Ailment

How to Increase Skill Potential in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance

Skill Potential in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance - What Does it Do?

All demons in SMTV: Vengeance come with a certain level of affinity for specific elements and a negative affinity for others. The only exception here is the Nahabino, your main avatar. The Nahobino starts at zero Skill Potential for all elements, but you can increase it depending on how you want to build your character.

To increase your Nahobino’s Skill Potential, you can purchase Masteries of a certain element through the Miracles in the Cosmos section. However, they cost a pretty big chunk of Glory, so you want to think carefully before you start investing in them.

To increase the Skill Potential of the Demons in your party, you can use Sutras. But since these items are pretty rare, you don’t want to use them without a clear plan. We recommend using them only when you can maximize the positive Skill Potential for a certain element for the Demon.

The Skill Potential is a core mechanic in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. Once you learn to utilize it properly, you’ll be able to set up a much stronger party to take on the perilous foes in the game. Hopefully this helped you master this.
