In Dune Awakening, players face an early choice: begin with the Research menu unlocked, granting immediate access to all available schematics, or keep it locked and unlock recipes as they progress. If you’re unsure which option to choose, we have put up the pros and cons for each of these options to help you decide the one you want to go ahead with.
Dune Awakening: Unlock Research Menu? Answered

Yes, if you are an experienced player and want to get access to all schematics right away. No, if you want to take it all in slowly as the game progresses. In both cases, you will not be missing out on any gameplay experience, as story progression, and questlines do not get impacted by this choice at all. Also, in a lot of cases, while you will get the option to research, the materials required will still become accessible only after a particular point in the game, or once you have leveled up sufficiently.

Dune Awakening: Research Menu Overview

At the start of Dune Awakening, players can choose between two research progression paths:
- Unlocked Mode: Displays all craftable schematics immediately, letting you decide what to unlock using Intel Points.
- Locked Mode: Schematics appear only when unlocked through quests or tutorial progression, keeping the system more guided.
These schematics get unlocked by using Intel Points, which you earn by leveling up, clearing out enemy camps, quest rewards, and purchasing from vendors.
Whether you pick Unlocked or Locked, the game’s story can still be completed, and Intel can be freely used to progress crafting.
The game, like in other aspects, gives you the flexibility to not get tied to early choices. Even when it comes to the class that you start with, you can find trainers across the world who help unlock other classes. Check our guide here for all trainer locations in Dune Awakening.
