Back in Gen 1, evolving a Pokémon was as simple as leveling it up and calling it a day. But recent Pokémon evolutions had me work twice as hard to unlock them. Pokémon Legends Z-A’s Mega Dimension DLC was no exception, and the reality hit hard when I finally caught a Galarian Yamask.
I thought evolving it into Runerigus would be straightforward, but boy, was I wrong. After meeting the initial evolution requirement, I couldn’t figure out why my Galarian Yamask stayed the same. Realization soon hit me; I had to find the right trigger area to actually start the evolution process.
It took a bit of experimenting and more wandering around Lumiose City before the clues finally clicked. If you’re stuck the same way I was, this guide walks you through everything you need to do to evolve Galarian Yamask into Runerigus in Pokémon Z-A.
How to Get Runerigus in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

To evolve Galarian Yamask into Runerigus, you need to let this Pokémon take 49+ damage first without having it KO’d. This step is quite easy, as you just need to release your Galarian Yamask into various Wild Zones. It’s easier if your Pokémon is at Level 100, as they won’t faint if they take damage. Now, once it obtains the required amount of damage, there is an extra step involved in the evolution process.
Head over to the bridge in Coulant Waterway. The nearest fast travel point is Cafe Cyclone, which is found southeast of Wild Zone 2. Once you find the bridge, walk across it to find a flight of stairs leading down. Next, you just need to walk over to the underside of the bridge, then select the Galarian Yamask from your party. Click on the Evolve button to start the evolution process, and you will get a Runerigus once done.
How to Get Galarian Yamask

If you don’t own a Galarian Yamask yet, you will find it within the new Hyperspace Lumiose Wild Zones in the DLC. It will appear randomly within them, so check the list of available Pokémon while selecting a Hyperspace Lumiose Wild Zone.
If you don’t spot any Wild Zones that offer the Glarian Yamask, sit at any bench in the game to change the day-night cycle. This will refresh the list of available Pokémon inside any Wild Zone, so you get to recheck and get your hands on a Galarian Yamask.
