Most Pokémon require some level of grind to evolve them, but none felt as painstaking as getting a Gholdengo in Pokémon Z-A. This Steel/Ghost-type Pokémon demands commitment, as evolving a Gimmighoul requires a hefty amount of Gimmighoul Coins.
What’s worse is that the game does not explain how to collect these coins. I had to figure all this out myself. Plus, I had to get a Gimmighoul first. This is easier said than done, considering the game does not offer wild Gimmighoul encounters.
After plenty of back and forth across Lumiose City, I found someone who was willing to part with both their Gimmighoul and their hard-earned Coins. This gave me a head-start to get a Gholdengo, and I have explained the exact steps to go about it in Pokémon Z-A.
How to Get Gimmighoul and Gholdengo in Pokémon Legends Z-A
Pokémon veterans would be aware that to get Gholdengo, you need to level up Gimmighoul with 999 Gimmighoul Coins. First, you need to acquire a Gimmighoul during Side Mission 122 – Let’s Golden Goooo! Head over to Rouge Street opposite Wild Zone 3 and speak to Thelo across the Pokémon Center.
He needs help collecting 999 Gimmighoul, and so far he has collected just 413 coins. If you accept his request, he will hand over his Gimmighoul and all of his coins, which starts the side quest.
Your next task is to collect the remaining 586 Gimmighoul Coins, and the only way to farm them is by exploring Hyperspace Wild Zones. Keep a lookout for glinting items scattered across the floor and pick them up. Each sparking item will give you 1x Gimmighoul Coin.
You will need to make several trips across various Hyperspace Wild Zones till you have the required 999 coins. Return to Thelo after that to complete the side quest and get the following rewards:
- ₽ 9,999
- Gold Bottle Cap x1
Evolving Gimmighoul to Gholdengo
Head into your menu, go to boxes, select the Gimmighoul, then press Evolve. All of your Gimmighoul Coins will be used up to evolve it into Gholdengo. Gholdengo is a Ghost-Steel Pokémon that offers the following base stats:
- HP: 87
- ATK: 60
- DEF: 95
- Sp ATK: 133
- Sp DEF: 91
- Speed: 84
- EV Yield: SpAtk +2
- Weakness: Dark, Fire, Ghost, Ground
- Damaged Normally by: Water, Electric
- Resistance: Bug, Dragon, Fairy, Flying, Grass, Ice, Psychic, Rock, Steel.
- Immune: Fighting, Normal, Poison
