Palworld 1.0 – Complete Guide to Dog Coins

Unlike the similarly named cryptocurrency, Dog Coins are an extremely valuable currency in Palworld that allows access to rare, exclusive items.

You can spend your Dog Coins at the Medal Merchant, the mysterious, hooded figure that likes to wander around abandoned places looking for a good deal. The Medal Merchant always makes me think of Resident Evil 4’s trader, but with a little less swag.

The items purchasable from the Medal Merchant are a significant help in strengthening your pals and in your own survival, but to get them, you need those elusive Dog Coins.

    How to Farm Dog Coins

It would have been lovely if there were regular, easy-to-calculate spawn rates for Dog Coins, but that would take the fun away.

Dog Coin spawns are at the mercy of good old RNG, but before you even begin rolling the dice on it, you need to know where to go looking.

There are several reliable Dog Coin drops: Mimogs, scrap, oil rig treasure chests, and human enemies.

    Defeat or Capture Mimogs

It’s a tale as old as time: that juicy-looking treasure chest is, in fact, a mimic looking for an easy dinner. Palworld’s take on the Dungeons and Dragons classic is the Mimog, a pal that disguises itself as the treasure chests that litter the Palpagos Islands.

In its dormant state, the Mimog looks just like the standard treasure chest, but the little ears on top are the biggest tell. Triggering a Mimog reveals its face, but also sends it darting away. I recommend putting walls or setting up hanging traps to box it in before trying to catch up to it, as even most pals won’t keep up.

Dog Coins are possible drops from either defeating or capturing a Mimog, but doing the latter opens up the Master of Unlocking partner skill.

    Fight Human Enemies

Farming humans sounds a little grim, but in this Dog Coin economy, you and I are not above that.

Humans belonging to hostile factions sometimes drop Dog Coins when defeated, though unlike Mimogs, they are going to stand and fight, so weigh your options carefully before committing.

    Salvage Junk Piles

The random piles of scrap around Palpagos Island provide rewards upon salvaging, so they’re worth trying your luck when farming Dog Coins.

All junkyard salvages, regardless of type or location, have around a 20% chance of dropping Dog Coins.

    Raid Oil Rig Treasure Chests

As the name implies, these purple treasure chests are exclusive to the oil rig.

One of the possible drops is Dog Coins, with an estimated 25% chance, making them a fairly reliable way to try your luck.

    How to Use Dog Coins?

After you secure enough Dog Coins, your next step is to track down the Medal Merchant.

His spawn points are divided between the Desolate Church Ruins, the Forgotten Island Church, the March Island Church Ruins, and the Sea Breeze Archipelago Church Ruins.

Items in his inventory range from 50 to 2000 dog coins, with the Concentrated All-Purpose Pal Extract being the most expensive item available.

If you think dog coins are too much trouble, you might want to try your hand at farming gold coins instead to relax.
