There are a handful of dungeons or ruins that you can explore while you are out and about Cyrodiil. Some ruins will even host some puzzles, and solving them will help you retrieve some unique rewards. If you are part of the Mages guild, then you would have picked up several side quests by now with each promotion. Eventually, you will receive the Vahtacen’s Secret quest, and within this is a puzzle to solve. This guide will cover how to solve the secret pillar puzzle in Oblivion Remastered.
How To Start Vahtacen’s Secret Quest In Oblivion Remastered
As part of the Mage guild, you need to complete the Ulterior Motives quest and get promoted to Evoker first. After that, seek out and speak to Raminus Polus and Irlav Jarol, who will inform you about an Ayleid ruin called Vahtacen.
Your task here is to explore the ruin and check up on the research being conducted over there. Get the key to the ruins from Irlav, then head over to Vahtacen’s to find an NPC called Skaleel. You can find the ruins southeast of Cheydinhal, and you can check out the marked location above to find it.
Vahtacen’s Secret Pillar Puzzle Solution
The path inside the ruins is pretty linear, as you will find a tunnel that will lead you to Skaleel. Speak to her, and she will tell you about a pillar that only activates while using magic. Head northwest after that and use the key on the gate to enter the puzzle area. You will also find another mage called Denel here, and he will give you some clues about solving the puzzle.
But he will need some help, so head back to Skaleel and retrieve the Ayleid Inscriptions and Their Translations book. Return to Denel, after which he will be able to translate the scripts on the tablets around the room. Technically, to solve the pillar puzzle, you need to use four types of magic, namely:
- Frost Damage
- Fire Damage
- Damage Magicka
- Fortify Magicka
If you don’t have these spells on you, you can collect the last three spells from the chests around the area Denel is in. As for Frost damage, you need to get the scroll from either the Bruma Mages Guild or the Skingrad Mages Guild. After that, return to the pillar and cast each spell one by one on it. Start off with the Fire spell, followed by Frost, Damage, and Fortify. The pillar will unlock, leading you even deeper into the ruins.
