Fingers of the Mountain Side quest can be a complicated mission, since the choices you made from the previous quest, Chorrol Recommendation, will directly impact the direction of the Fingers of the Mountain Side quest. Fingers of the Mountain Side Quest Guide
First, we must cover the details of the “Chorrol Recommendation” Quest and how it influences the decisions of the next quest, “Fingers of the Mountain Part 2“. We will also going to cover the best way to finish the Chorrol Recommendation quest to get the next quest “Fingers of the Mountain Side Part 2“.
Find the Fingers of the Mountain Book
Head to the Mages Guild down in Chorrol. Here, talking to Teekeeus inside the guild, He will ask us to find a woman named Earana seen in the town. Our first objective is to find this woman around the town. Interacting with her will trigger the Chorrol Recommendation quest.
- You will find Earana on the map as a Red and Green marker. The Red marker shows her sleeping in the Grey Mare Tavern, the Green Marker shows she is active and running around in the street of Chorrol. But you will have a good chance of finding her walking around the Mages guild, because she used to be part of the guild.
- When you talk to her, she will ask us to find a specific book titled Fingers of the Mountain. But she also mentions not to tell Teekeeus about the book. But we are going to break the rule by heading to the Mages Guild and letting Teekeeus know about the Fingers of the Mountain book. Teekeeus will ask us to hunt down the book for him and not share it with Earana.
Now our mission is to hunt down the book at Cloud Top, located northwest of Chorrol. Just follow the quest marker to hunt it down. You will find the book ” Fingers of the Mountain” inside the burned bodies in front of a statue. Remember the location, we will be coming back to it later in the next phase of the Fingers of the Mountain questline.

Handing Fingers of the Mountain to Teekeeus
Head over to the Mages Guild, and hand the book to Teekeeus; he will be happy to get the book out of Earana’s hand. Then you will receive an official Mage Guild Recommendation, completing the Chorrol Recommendation Quest.
Handing Fingers of the Mountain to Earana
- If you hand the Fingers of the Mountain to Earana, she will ask you to wait a day or two until she finishes translating the details in the book. Use the timer to skip two in-game days, and then when you talk to her, she will hand you the Earana Notes, which is basically a translation of the Fingers of the Mountain book.
- Reading the Earana Notes will end the Chorrol Recommendation Quest. It will also tell us about performing a particular spell at the peak of Cloud Top to receive a new spell, which is part of the next quest.
The next quest is called Fingers of the Mountain Part II, which only begins when you have the Earana Notes in your possession. Here comes the complicated aspect of the quest: If you have given the book to Earana, you will miss out on the Mage Guild Recommendation, and if you give the book to Teekeeus, you will miss out on Earana’s Note, which will not trigger the Fingers of the Mountain Part II quest chain.

The best optimal route here is to get Earana’s Notes and the Chorrol Mage Guild Recommendation.
We will recommend handing the book to Earana first and getting Earana’s Notes. Then speak to Teekeeus about Earana having the Fingers of the Mountain book. He will ask us to steal the book from Earana. Now, just steal the book from Earana and hand it over to Teekeeus to get the Mages Guild Recommendation and finish the quest Chorrol Recommendation. Since we possess Earana’s Notes from the translation, the next quest, Fingers of the Mountain Part II, will begin without any problem.
Fingers of the Mountain Part II
Here we will cover the second part of the quest chain. If you handed the book to Earana, then you must have Earana’s Notes in your possession. The game will start with the Fingers of the Mountain Part II quest in your journal.
Fingers of the Mountain Part II will not begin unless the book is in possession of Earana. If you have given the book to Teekeeus, find Earana once again at the Tavern and tell her about the Fingers of the Mountain book in the possession of Teekeeus. Here, she will ask you to steal the book from Teekeeus.
- You must get to the Mages Guild in Chorrol and then head over to Teekeeus’s personal bedroom to find a chest inside. The key to the chest is in the possession of Teekeeus. So you must use your pickpocket ability to rip the key off his pouch.
- Stealing the key can be a difficult task for a lot of people. So it is better to wait till nighttime and pickpocket the key when Teekeeus is sleeping on his bed. Don’t grab anything else, just pickpocket the key, or he will wake up, raising the alarm.
- Now open the chest in his room with the key and take the Fingers of the Mountain book.
Find Earana, and hand her the Fingers of the Mountain book that we stole from Teekeeus. She will give us Earana’s Notes to trigger the Fingers of the Mountain Part II quest.
Find Welkynd Stones For The Spell
Reading the Earana Notes will help us learn about a spell, but it requires Welkynd Stones to use it. Now our task is to find Welkynd Stones. You will find a good number of them in the Ayleid Ruins in Oblivion. They are used as a light source, so you will find them on top of the pillar, within the reachable zone, or lying on the ground.
They are not an uncommon item, you will find plenty of them inside any Ayleid Ruins. Head over to any one of them and you will find a good number of them in the first few rooms of the Ayleid Ruins.
Head to Cloud Top
Now it’s time to go back to Cloud Top with Welkynd Stone in your possession. Inside the Cloud Top, you will find a broken statue in the middle of the ruins. Following on the details of the Earana’s Note, we must use the Shock spell on the broken stone statue. This will grant you the Fingers of the Mountain spell in your spell book. Obtaining the spell will complete the Fingers of the Mountain Part II quest.
