There are a lot of secrets hiding behind some of the locations in Oblivion Remastered, and you might have to work a bit harder to locate them all. During the Canvas the Castle quest, you have to help Countess Arriana Valga investigate the culprits who have stolen a precious painting from Castle Chorrol. You need to explore and search for all clues and evidence that will help you uncover the thief. This guide will explain where you can find all the clues and evidence in Oblivion Remastered.
Oblivion Remastered – All Clue Locations in Canvas the Castle Quest

Head over to Castle Chorrol in the northeastern part of Chorrol and speak to the Countess in the Great Hall. There are 5 people who she suspects have stolen the painting, and you need to locate all 5 suspects within Castle Chorrol. Below are who you need to find and where to find them within the castle.
- Bittneld the Curse-Bringer – Will mostly be on patrol, or around the main hall, or inside the castle barracks.
- Chanel – Can be found within the castle’s private quarters.
- Laythe Wavrick – You can find him in the private quarters too, or around the great hall, near the throne.
- Orgnolf Hairy-Legs – Another suspect to find in the private quarters
- Orok gro-Ghoth – Can be found either at Northern Good and Trade or at the private quarters.
Most of them won’t speak to you unless your disposition with them exceeds 60+. Then, speak to each suspect individually to gather some clues about the night in question. Some will accuse Orgnolf of being drunk, and Orok is the only one who has seen Orgnolf visiting the West Tower one time. Bittneld will also mention that Chanel visits the West Tower very frequently, but she says she goes there to research her spells.
Find the Suspect

Another thing to note is that Orgnolf and Orok have mentioned that it rained during the time of the theft, but Chanel was star gazing in the courtyard during that time before heading to the dining hall. The evidence seems to be stacking up against Chanel, but don’t accuse anyone yet without proof. Backtrack to her quarters, the courtyard, and the dining area, since these are the places that she claimed to visit during that night.
You will notice some paint stains on the floor in the dining hall, and if you investigate the Lectern in her quarters, you will find painting supplies. Next, make your way to the West Tower, since two of the suspects seem to visit it frequently. Orgnolf did mention using the upper floors of the tower to drink, which is what you will find. But there is no painting to be found here, so explore the lower floors to find a painting stashed away.
There are two choices to make here while you decide who to accuse of stealing the painting. Your rewards will also vary depending on who you pick.
Turn in Chanel
If you believe Chanel to be the thief, you can speak to her once your disposition is above 70+. She will confess to the crime, after which you can speak to the Countess to tell her your findings and claim your rewards.
Alongside your accusation, if you have also accused Orgnolf, you will receive just gold depending on your level. If you have only accused Chanel, then you will receive gold based on your level, 8x gems, and +1 Fame. Chanel will no longer be found within the game.
Absolve Both Suspects
You can tell the Countess that you suspect no one, and you will just receive a small amount of gold based on your level. Speak to Chanel after 3 weeks, and she will give you a new Reward Painting, which can be sold for 500 gold or kept as furnishing in your home.
