MIO: Memories In Orbit – How To Beat Lombre

MIO: Memories In Orbit follows the trend of many Metroidvanias before it by being jam-packed full of challenging enemies and boss fights to the Nth degree. Let’s not mince words here; while the game might not be quite as demanding as say Hollow Knight: Silksong, it’s no slouch, either.

Lombre, however, one of the bosses you’ll come across once you’ve already become fairly familiar with the vibe and gameplay of MIO, isn’t exactly anything to write home about. Still, don’t feel bad if you’re still having some trouble taking this giant slug with a drill bit down for good.

Whether you’re roadblocked by Lombre, simply can’t locate him, or just want to know what you get as a reward for this fight, I’ve got you covered below, little memory.

    Where To Find Lombre

Immediately after gaining the glide ability from Samsk, you’ll be able to access several more areas in MIO: Memories In Orbit that were previously locked behind a progression wall (you know, Metroidvania things). One of these new areas is Promenade.

As soon as you step into this area, you’ll notice the tone of the game shift immediately into more of a horror-type vibe than anything you’ve experienced previously, so get ready for some heebies, as well as some jeebies.

Lombre himself is a bit hidden away, and you can miss him entirely if you don’t fully explore this initial area of Promenade. He’s located at the spot on the map above. Dip underneath the main path, then double back to the left through a secret passage to find Lombre just lying there menacingly.

    How To Beat Lombre

Once inside Lombre’s arena, the boss fight will kick into gear. Like several other fights in MIO: Memories In Orbit, the Lombre fight is a two phase endeavor, but things don’t switch up too much after the transition.

If you’re a visual learner, I’ve included a video of my successful fight with Lombre above.

    Phase One

    MIO: Memories In Orbit: Lombre

In Phase One, Lombre only has a small handful of moves.

Left To Right/Right To Left Drill AttackLombre will emerge from either side of the wall and scoot across the floor before getting temporarily lodged into the wall on the opposite side.
Raised Left To Right/Right To Left Drill AttackThe exact same as the attack above, only Lombre initially emerges from higher up on the wall, making him slightly more difficult to dodge.
Upward/Downward Drill Attack With Poison ProjectilesLombre will fall from the ceiling or raise from the ground, get lodged in the opposite direction, and shoot out three poison projectiles.

While all of the attacks above can come from various directions, Lombre’s moveset in Phase One really is not difficult to get a handle on at all. He has obvious tells for each and every one as well, since you’ll notice rocks on the floors, ceilings, and walls start to move wherever he’s going to appear from.

He doesn’t move too quickly once he does reveal himself, so it’s not bad to simply jump over him if moving horizontally, or sidestep in either direction if entering the arena vertically.

The technically “hardest” move to dodge is the vertical variation, as he’ll shoot a trio of poison projectiles in your direction that you’ll need to maneuver around when he’s lodged in either the floor or ceiling.

Your actual plan of attack here is simply to dodge, then punish whenever Lombre gets stuck in a wall, floor, or ceiling after you’ve avoided his attack. On occasion, when he lodges into a wall, he’ll get stuck for an extra long amount of time, allowing you to just button mash your melee until he disappears.

Remember, there’s no contact damage in MIO, so once you’ve avoided an attack, get right up in there and whale away.

    Phase Two

    MIO: Memories In Orbit: Lombre

Phase Two switches things up a little, but Lombre is still entirely manageable. Here’s what’s new:

Rain Of Poison ProjectilesLombre emerges from the ground and flops like a fish out of water, causing dense waves of poison projectiles to fall from the sky.
Tail Slap With Poison ProjectilesLombre emerges from the ground in a random spot and attacks with his tail, which also launches three poison projectiles.

These two new attacks happen in addition to everything else from Phase One, so plan on dodging all of those previous moves still too.

The rain of poison is a little daunting at first, but all you need to do is stay on the ground and run back and forth between the gaps in the projectiles. They come in three waves, each with a clear, defined area of safety that you can stand in.

The new tail slap is Lombre’s most difficult move to dodge, but don’t forget your parry move, which when timed properly, can dodge this attack with success every single time. For this move, Lombre can spawn from anywhere on the floor, so pay attention to the moving rocks and get out of the way.

Stay with the same strategy of dodging the Phase One moves and punishing whenever able, and Lombre will eventually go down.

    Rewards For Defeating Lombre

    MIO: Memories In Orbit: Lombre

While you don’t get anything added into your inventory for beating Lombre (aside from some extra Nacre), you do earn one of the most valuable perks in the game for your victory: a new Overseer.

Continue through Lombre’s arena to the gate on the left side of the room, and you’ll see an Overseer on the ground that you can mend.

Upon doing so, it’ll fly off to its designated location, acting as a new fast travel point on your map.

This new Overseer spawns nearby, just above and to the left of the area of Promenade you dropped down to fight Lombre in the first place.

If you’ve got a lot of extra Nacre at this point, consider traveling back to the Nexus to spend it all with Mel on some nice upgrades.
