Marvel Cosmic Invasion: How To Beat Annihilus

The final battle against Annihilus was not quite as hectic as the fight with Silver Surfer, but it’s still one hell of a finale, and one that gives you the freedom to finally run whatever hero duo you want.

The galaxy is in peril, and it all comes down to this fight against the big bad of Marvel Cosmic Invasion. It’s a tough fight to be sure, but one that can be managed on the first try if you play your cards right.

We are more than happy to show you how to do it, with team-assist combos aplenty, and oodles of hacking and slashing. Here is our Marvel Cosmic Invasion: How To Beat Annihilus Guide.

Best Hero Combo For Fighting Annihilus

Marvel Cosmic Invasion Silver Surfur and Beta Ray Bill

I personally recommend Silver Surfer and Beta Ray Bill for a duo against Annihilus. Silver Surfer’s laser attacks add a dark status effect on enemies, dealing damage over time. Whereas Beta Ray Bill’s hammer-throw ability always comes in handy to take care of the smaller enemies in the arena.

The hammer stays in the single spot, attacking everyone who gets near the spot, including Annihilus. The team-assist combos are the perfect move against Annihilus’ weakened form.

However, if you’re not keen on those combos, I suggest one character with ranged abilities and projectiles, and then another who moves fast and deals rapid attacks. Here’s a few other alternatives:

    • Storm/Wolverine
    • Captain America/Rocket Raccoon
    • Black Panther/Phala-Vell

However, you can honestly just go with your preference here, as this level serves as a true test of all you have learned, and really, you should be an expert with most characters by now.

Annihilus has a handful of deadly attacks, but they can be countered by team-assist combos.

If you want to get the W, it all comes down to weakening Annihilus to stun-lock him on his knees in a single spot. But, in the periods between, you’ll need to move swiftly to avoid his barrage of attacks. Here’s what you’re up against:

    Rush Attack

Marvel Cosmic Invasion Annihilus Flame Charging Attack

Annihilus’ rush attack covers the entire battle area, moving diagonally after the first charge. The rush attack is the perfect time to try out blocking to stun-lock Annihilus.

Keep that in mind when you block his rush ability to land some hits, and prepare to do another block instantly. In my experience, he continued his rush attack even after taking a countermove.

    Laser Beam

Marvel Cosmic Invasion Annihilus Laser Attack

At the end of any attack, Annihilus will start laughing manically and leap to either side of the screen. He will then fire a laser beam from his hand in a straight line.

What makes this attack deadly is the sheer damage the laser beam deals, combined with the constant nature of the attack. The best way to avoid the attack is by staying out of Annihilus’s line of fire.

Moving to an upper or lower part of the arena can help you avoid the attack and help you deal some damage once the laser beam show is over.

    Giant Energy Ball

Marvel Cosmic Invasion Annihilus Energy Ball attack

The last thing you want to do is to let Annihilus gather the energy for the large projectile attack. Once Annihilus begins to charge up for the energy ball, get close and carry out team-assist attacks.

The best indicator to keep track of the damage is Annihilus’s health bar; once the orange layer over its red HP bar disappears, Annihilus will go down. Don’t ever rely on dealing damage by using only one hero; here, you should concentrate on dealing the most damage by merging as many attacks as possible.

Silver Surfer’s laser weapon to deal damage over time, and Beta Ray Bill’s hammer throw ability did come in handy, tipping the scales in my favor.

    Meteor Shower

Marvel Cosmic Invasion Annihilus Meteor Shower

The final move will have Annihilus spawn meteors; each meteor will cast a red icon before hitting the ground. Avoid staying on red icons to avoid meteor damage.

During the entire meteor shower, Annihilus will stay in the same spot with his hand over his head. Making a perfect opportunity to land some blows after or during the Meteor Shower.

To be on the safer side, you can land a few blows after the meteor shower. But if you are close to earning the victory, then get close to Annihilus, avoid the specific red marks around his spot, and then go on the attack.

Tips On How To Beat Annihilus

Marvel Cosmic Invasion Annihilus Silver Surfur face up
    • Once Annihilus starts laughing, then prepare for the laser attack, as he will either move to the right or left and spawn a laser beam from his hand. The best option is to stay close to Annihilus but not in his line of sight. I will recommend staying underneath Annihilus to land some quick hits after he is finished with the laser beam attack.
    • Don’t let Annihilus charge up the energy ball; he is at his most vulnerable during this phase. Always resort to team-assist moves to quickly stun him during this phase. Don’t rely on using a single hero. Always diversify, and use a team combination to deal the most damage.
    • When Annihilus is charging at your location, make sure you are facing him to perform the block and then counterattack. Blocking will not work if Annihilus is rushing at your back.
    • During the meteor Shower, stay close to Annihilus. It’s not going to be pretty, as he will spawn one or two meteors around him. But they can be easily dodged, and you can then continue your attacks. It is a risky maneuver, but it usually pays off.

Annihilus is a difficult foe, but most of its attacks have more to do with sheer might than speed. Follow the tips to hit him hard, grab the victory, and save mankind.
