Gearbox Software has dropped the first free Bounty Pack DLC for Borderlands 4, How Rush Saved Mercenary Day, bringing in new missions, new gear, new cosmetics, and more. The side mission “The War on Mercenary Day” is included in this Pack, which requires you to team up with Rush, leader of the Outbounders, and kill Minister Screw to spread the holiday spirit. However, there’s a sub-objective that may stop players from progressing in this mission. Here’s how you can easily complete it in Borderlands 4.
Shorting Out the Center Lock in Borderlands 4
After you short out the left and the right locks during “The War on Mercenary Day” mission in Borderlands 4, you’ll be asked to short out the center lock. The center lock is located at the top of the Ministry of Culture, but there are no clear routes available to access it. Once you’re done with the right lock, look for a large, red vehicle beside it, as shown in the image above.
Climb onto the red vehicle, and then look for a grapple point above. This grapple point will be located in front of you at the top. You cannot reach this grapple point unless you jump. Use this grapple point to climb to the top. You will reach a balcony-like area that contains two fans: one spinning, while the other one is stationary. Make your way through the fan that’s not spinning, located on the right.
Inside the location, move forward and jump over the pipes that lie ahead. Then, turn right and climb the structures to find a vent above. Use this vent to access the room with the top console inside the Ministry of Culture. That’s where you’ll find the center lock.
Approach the center lock and interact with it to complete the sub-objective “Short the center lock” in Borderlands 4. This will cause the lock to light up with Christmas lights, and Minister Screw will be incredibly upset by your actions.
The War on Mercenary Day Rewards
While the side mission is far from over after completing this side objective, you’ll eventually fight Minister Screw and best him in battle. After defeating the Minister, you’ll share a heartfelt conversation with Rush about family. This will complete “The War on Mercenary Day” side mission in Borderlands 4, and here are the rewards you’ll obtain for your troubles:
- Eridium
- Cash
- Mini Healthraiser Healing Repkit (Legendary)
- Vampiric Frag Grenade
- Other Epic and Common gear
