If you choose to hang out in the New Camp in the Gothic 1 Remake, you’ll eventually meet an NPC called Homer who’s having issues with Lurkers at the camp’s dam. Fortunately for him, there’s a morally fluid Hero in camp who’s looking to make a name for himself.
The Dam Lurker quest in Gothic will require a bit of traveling here and there. Below, we’ll walk you through what you need to do to complete this rather fun quest in the remake. Bear in mind, you’ll need to be relatively proficient in combat for this quest, and you’ll be rewarded with EXP and a boost to your reputation in camp.
Homer in New Camp
Homer will tell you he fears the dam collapsing one day, as a Lurker is damaging it by sharpening its teeth on the stone. Naturally, Homer doesn’t want to go anywhere near these sharp teeth, however, he’s happy to volunteer you for the job of stopping the creature.
Accept the quest and head west from the dam to continue go Lurker hunting.
Finding the Dam Lurker
Follow the road past the lake until you get to a fork in the road. Take the path close to the lake, as this is where the Lurker tends to spawn. He may spot you the moment you arrive at the fork in the road and come running towards you. If you’re a certified bad-ass, then take him out when he does.
If you’re a more wily character or slightly under-leveled, then you can climb a rock near the lake and sneak up on the beast. You can shoot him with arrows from here and either kill him or whittle away a good chunk of his health. In truth, he’ll struggle to get to you if you’re up there, so as long as you have arrows and are doing decent damage, it’s essentially shooting fish in a barrel.
Beware, this location is also full of wolves, which can jump out and attack you, even while you’re up on the stone. So keep an eye out, as fighting off both the Lurker and a hungry pack of wolves is likely not going to go your way. Try to kill any wolves you see on the way to this location so you can battle the Lurker one-on-one.
Once the Lurker is dead, make your way back to Homer, who’ll thank you for your efforts, winning his allegiance at camp. Homer doesn’t try to swindle you like Baloros, but he also doesn’t offer you any tangible reward. However, the experience gained from this quest and his trust are more than worth it.
