Gothic 1 Remake features amazing visuals and gameplay changes, one of them being the lockpicking mechanics, which catch many people off guard due to its complexity. Compared to the lockpicking minigame we have seen in several other games, this one will pick your brain apart.
This guide will focus on how to lockpick the lock to Scatty’s Chest and the ways to trigger the quest, which has its own structure and routing that you must follow.
How to successfully lockpick Scatty’s Chest
Lockpicking has multiple steps, with many directions and part selections. The picture above does give you everything you need to know about the direction and the numbering of each piece of the lock. Here are the steps to break the lock:
Note: The directions are important here; carefully observe which way is left or right, or you will mess the entire thing up.
First Step:
- Step – 1: Select the Fourth (#4), and move one time to the Left.
- Step – 2: Select the third (#3), once to the Left.
- Step – 3: Select the fourth (#4), once to the Left.
- Step – 4: Select the third (#3) three times to the Left.
- Step – 5: Select the fifth (#5), six times to the Left.
- Step – 6: Select the first (#1), once to the Left.
- Step – 7: Select the fourth (#4), two times to the Left.
- Step – 8: Select the second (#2), three times to the Right.
- Step – 9: Select the first (#1) three times to the Right.
- Step – 10: Select the fifth (#5), five times to the Left.
- Step – 11: Select the third (#3), two times to the Left.
- Step – 12: Select the fourth (#4), once to the Left.
- Step – 13: Select the third (#3), once to the Left.
- Step – 14: Select the second (#2), once to the Right.
- Step – 15: And lastly, select the fifth (#5), three times to the Left.
Phew, congratulations on opening the chest. Now let’s take a look at all the goodies inside the chest:
- Scatty’s Ring, just his personal ring (Primary Loot)
- Pan, Cheese, Bread, Razor, Pickaxe, Ore Nugget x16 (Other Loot)
Scatty’s Hut Location in Gothic 1 Remake
Scatty’s hut is located northeast of the map. I have marked the spot on the map in the image above. The objective here is simple: steal a ring from Scatty’s Chest. You must play out the lockpicking minigame to open the chest and grab the ring inside. The best time to lockpick Scatty’s chest is in the morning, when Scatty is generally outside.
Diego Location in Gothic 1 Remake
Diego is found next to the Shadow NPC near the small camp located northwest of the Old Map. I have marked the spot for Diego on the map, in case you are having difficulty tracking him down. If you don’t have a map, then check out our quick guide to get a map in Gothic Remake.
Talk to Diego in the Old camp and choose the option Who Can Teach Me Some Skills Around Here? Then make your way to the Finger located at the north gate, who lives by the Castle Wall. You will find him on the side of the building with two red banners.
Start talking to him and then choose,“I’m looking for folks to put in a good word for me.” After a brief exchange, Fingers will let out the information about Scatty and his big chest. Choose“I’ll take care of it” to start the quest A Ring for Fingers.
Finger also teaches Lockpicking upgrades for a fixed price (Requires LP and Ore). Some of them are useful, and if you plan to do quite a bit of lock-picking, I recommend you get those upgrades.
