Gothic 1 Remake – Best Way To Safely Reach The New Camp and Swamp Camp

When you start the Gothic 1 Remake, you’ll likely find yourself ushered towards the Old Camp and be given some starting quests by Diego. While it pays to spend some time in the Old Camp to make some allies and build some skills, you may be keen to explore the New Camp and Swamp Camp before making a decision about which one you join full-time.

However, the road is dangerous, and you may not know the way. And let’s face it, at the start of the game, even a few Scavengers can kill you quickly, and the map you work hard to get is mostly useless. But the good news is that there’s a very easy way to get to the New Camp and the Swamp Camp, and a way that gets you there safely without needing to fight a single monster. Better yet, once you know the way its easy to remember the route.

The New Camp is directly west of the Old Camp, and you can find it very easily by just following the road in this direction. However, you’re vulnerable at this point in the game, and even a pack of wolves will be able to make short work of you.

So, if you want to get to the New Camp without doing much, speak to Thorus and work through the dialogue about joining the Shadows. Eventually, you’ll be set the “Out of Sight” quest and be sent to find Mordrag.

Mordrag can be found near the South Gate, and you’ll be able to have a conversation with him about the New Camp. You can ask him to take you there, and the helpful NPC will oblige.

The best part is that not only will Mordrag guide you to the New Camp, he’ll also protect you from dangerous beasts on your way there. Sure, you can help him fight any attackers off for the EXP, but he’ll take most enemies down with ease, so you won’t even need to lift a finger.

Once you arrive, you can then decide if the New Camp is the place for you, or if you prefer the rigid stability of the Old Camp.

If the life of a Shadow or Mercenary isn’t for you, and you’d prefer to sit around all day smoking swampweed while praising a god that totally won’t turn out to be a massive threat, then the Swamp Camp could be for you!

The Swamp Camp is located deep within the swamplands and is east of the New Camp and south of the Orc’s territory. Like the New Camp, it’s an easy route to remember once you’ve been there once. However, it too is a dangerous journey.

Luckily, you’ll be accosted by Baal Parvez soon after arriving in Old Camp, and he’ll try to recruit you to his new religion. If you’re interested, or just fancy checking out the Swamp Camp, you can ask him to escort you there.

Just like Mordrag, Baal Parvez is happy to handle any dangerous wildlife you may encounter, and he’ll even vouch for you to join the Swamp Camp.

Once you’ve checked out all three camps, you’ll have a better understanding of which one is best for you. The camp you pick dictates the next few quests you go on, but ultimately, it doesn’t matter.

You’ll spend time at all three, and even after taking the oath to a camp, you may find yourself living in another once the story arrives at a certain point.
