One of the most challenging bosses in God of War Sons of Sparta is Skolopendra, a large snake found in the port area. It only takes a handful of hits to be killed by this beast, as each of its attacks does a high amount of damage.
You may have noticed that it’s not possible to deal a ton of damage to Skolopendra through basic attacks, only really doing chip damage. Keep in mind that while this is true, players only really need to get its health bar down to about half to defeat it.
If you’re having trouble beating Skolopendra in God of War Sons of Sparta, we have you covered. Read further to learn the best strategies and tips to defeat this giant snake once and for all.
How to Beat Skolopendra in God of War Sons of Sparta

As you fight Skolopendra in God of War Sons of Sparta, it will knock you to other platforms throughout the fight. These are what I like to call “phases” as each platform has Skolopendra executing a different order of attacks.
Platform / Phase 1
On the first platform, there are two attacks you need to look out for. One attack has Skolopendra glowing red and biting down, while the other one has Skolopendra glowing purple and lunging toward the player.
The absolute best time (and only time) to deal damage to Skolopendra is during the glowing red bite attack. Dodge rolling into Skolopendra after each time she glows red, and then striking her with your sword, will allow you to chip away at her health bar without taking damage.

As for its glowing purple lunge attack, you need to run to the opposite side of the platform and double jump into the air. Timing this double jump right will prevent you from taking damage.

Platform / Phase 2
As you reach the second platform, Skolopendra will introduce another attack that has him glowing red, smashing its head onto the platform, and sending a rock wave toward the player. This also causes rocks to fall from the sky.
This can easily be avoided by jumping over the rock wave and moving from side to side to avoid the rocks falling from above.

Platform / Phase 3
As you reach the third platform, you’ll find a device that allows you to refill your magic meter between Skolopendra’s attacks. This is great considering the Evergreen Flame deals the most damage to Skolopendra, so I highly recommend using that instead of a standard spear attack.
The third platform has Skolopendra executing the same attacks as before, just now they are more frequent. For example, it will do its rush attack three times in a row. Follow the same strategies as before to avoid taking damage, but just be prepared for more attacks.
Final Platform / Phase
Eventually you will reach the top platform that has a giant mirror with a switch next to it. In order to kill Skolopendra, you need to get this mirror working. You can do that by attacking the pole that is blocking the mirror, as shown by Kratos and Demos in the image below.
As you’re attacking this pole, Skolopendra will be launching rocks toward you. Don’t worry, these are easily dodged by jumping over them.
Once you destroy the pole after hitting it enough times, interact with the switch to officially kill Skolopendra once and for all.
Skolopendra Rewards

After defeating Skolopendra in God of War Sons of Sparta, players will be rewarded with a ton of Blood Orbs to use for upgrading their character and enhancing equipment. Additionally, players will be able to continue the main story as Skolopendra is one of the main bosses of the game.
Defeating Skolopendra will complete The Gathering Storm quest in God of War Sons of Sparta. Completing this quest will save the port from getting destroyed by the giant snake, proving to the townfolk that the boys are reliable Spartans.
