Ioke is one of the first bosses you’ll encounter in God of War: Sons of Sparta, but despite the fact that he appears early on, he is still pretty challenging. Players need to be quick during this boss fight in order to avoid taking damage and to land attacks on the enemy.
Ioke really acts as a tutotrial to dodging and evading in God of War: Sons of Sparta. Up to this point, the game doesn’t tell you that you can dodge through attacks, but that is a crucial component in winning this battle.
If you’re having trouble defeating Ioke, this guide has you covered. Read further to learn how to defeat Ioke in God of War: Sons of Sparta.
How to Beat Ioke in God of War Sons of Sparta
Immediately at the start of the fight Ioke will glow red, spin viciously in a circle, and launch itself toward you. Since this attack is red, it means that it’s unblockable, so you have to dodge through it to avoid taking damage. He does this attack twice, once to the left and again to the right.

This attack is actually the perfect time to deal damage to Ioke. Right when you see Ioke glow red and begin to spin, dodge through the attack to get behind him and attack.
Ioke will follow the spinning attack with a wind gust attack, which sees him launch himself in the air and throw a gust of wind down toward the player. Since this attack has no color to it, you can easily block it with your shield.

After the wind gust attack, Ioke will glow purple and slam itself to the ground, shooting out a wave of wind toward the player. Since this attack is purple, it can’t be dodged or blocked, meaning you have to avoid it entirely.
To do avoid this attack, run to the side and wait for Ioke to hit the ground, and then jump over the wave of wind to avoid taking damage. You want to jump over the wind toward Ioke, landing near him so you can get a handful of attacks on him and deal damage before he gets back up.

Ioke will then repeat these series of attacks, until you get his health bar down to three quarters. The series of attacks is as follows: spinning red attack, wind gust, and purple slam attack with wave of wind. So, follow the strategies mentioned above, getting attacks in when you can.
Once you get Ioke’s health down to three quarters, he will launch himself into the air and go off screen. Rays of light will then appear on the screen, which indicate where Ioke will fly through the screen. Avoid these rays of light to ensure you don’t get hit by Ioke.

Ioke will then do the same series of attacks as before, red spinning attack, wind gust, and purple slam attack. However, this time he will execute each attack more than he did previously.
For example, he will spin across the arena three times here (glowing red), and slam down to the ground three times (glowing purple).
In this case, make sure to dodge through the spinning attack three times, getting behind him to deal damage each time. As for the purple slam attack, jump over the wave of wind three times, and on the third slam, rush in to deal damage.
From here on out, Ioke doesn’t have any new attacks, so it’s all about dodging and finding the windows to deal damage.
