If you are looking for a laid-back city builder, then Foundation is right up your alley. Since leaving early access, there are a lot more features added that makes the game better. As you keep building up your city, you can implement several new structures and put your villagers to work. You will need the Quarry to help you mine rare resources to help build structures in mid-game. This guide will cover everything about the Quarry and how to mine efficiently in Foundation.

Since the map for Foundation is vast, you need to explore and locate all available resources near and around your village. This can take a while to do manually, hence why the game implements something called a Prospect. This can help you send out a villager, mostly a Bailiff, to explore and collect information on all nearby resources. But first, you need to start a particular quest before you can implement this.

To start, as you keep expanding your village, you will come across a certain mineral deposit. The mineral can be anything, from stones to iron, or even marble. You should have a Lord Manor by now, and within it you can include the Bailiff Office and assign a Bailiff. Once you hit close to a mineral mine, you will get notified to start a quest called Bailiff Available for Mandate. Send your Bailiff off to Prospect all minerals nearby, and they will return with their findings once they are done. This will cost you some money, so be sure you have the required amount by increasing prices of certain goods for sale.

How To Mine & Set Up A Quarry

Now that you have the locations of all nearby mineral deposits, you can start setting up a mine. You will automatically unlock mining stations when you encounter a mineral for the first time. But first, if these deposits are not within your territory, then you need to expand towards it to accommodate and build a quarry. Next, select the mineral deposit to get a rundown of what items are required to build a quarry. Once the setup is done, you can assign villagers to start the mining process.

Besides a Quarry, you will also need:

    • Miners: to place the mineral deposit onto the crane,
    • Transporters to move the ores from the crane to the Warehouse.

You can then collect the mineral ores from the Warehouse and use them for construction or crafting new items. It is best to set up your houses and Warehouse close to the Quarry so it is easier for transportation and closes the distance for the villagers heading to the workplace.

    Types of Minerals and Uses

    • Stone: Used in Building Structures.
    • Iron: Used to make Iron Bars at the Smelter, which, in turn, can help create several city accessories.
    • Crystals: Glassblowers can make Glass using Crystals.
    • Marble: Take this mineral to the Builders Workshop after unlocking the Sculptor option to craft statues.
    • Gold: Can be taken to the Smelter to make Gold Bars, which can be used to make jewelry or accessories.

Foundation has a lot more features to uncover, and we have guides covering how to make money early and how to use the Gathering Hut that you can check out as well.
