Everwind can be a chill, relaxing experience, but in the first few hours, it can get confusing about what to do and how to make anything work. There are so many mechanics and crafting choices that can make or break the game.
The game is awfully forgiving, but there are many times when my mistakes caught me off guard, creating nothing but trouble for the rest of the trip. All the bad mistakes became part of the game, running out of fuel while being in the air, and swimming closer to an island for fuel and food. The game does allow the player to create their own storylines based on their actions.
If you are just starting out in Everwind and you are struggling to get into it, here is a guide to help you catch up with some of the basic mechanics of Everwind.
Top 10 Tips for the Perfect Start in Everwind
Here we will take a look at all the tips I learned from my experience in the game.
#1. Don’t Settle Right Away

One of the mistakes I made at the start of the game was setting up the base on the first island. While it does make sense to build a camp on the very first island, you must avoid the urge to set up a camp on the first base. It becomes useless later on in the game.
Once you craft the flying ship, you can set up the base on the plane and take it anywhere instead of going back and forth between old and new locations.
#2. Get Blueprints
Use your axe to break cupboards in any home you come across. Once you break a cupboard or any storage object, you will receive a blueprint of the object. These blueprints don’t require any material to set up the object; you can just use it straight from the shortcut. In a way, you are stealing the entire cupboard in the form of a paper, so it doesn’t consume a massive space in your inventory.
#3. Repair Kits
Weapons will degrade, and everything comes to an end. And the only way to counter it is by using a repair kit. You can craft repair kits from the crafting station as long as you have the necessary materials (x1 Copper Ingot + x1 Forestwood Plank) for them. It is best to carry a handful of them with you on your adventure, or you will be vulnerable to enemies.
Note: While you can hit an enemy with a shovel or axe, you lose the ability to block. Only weapons have the option to block and parry, so always carry a handful of repair kits.
#4. Use Logs as Fuel for a Flying Ship
Don’t use planks for fuel; chop down some trees, and you will get a good amount of logs for your travel. Then use the logs in the furnace on the ship to serve as fuel for the machine. The logs will burn for a long time, lessening the urgency in your ship’s travels.
#5. Also Level Up
Don’t forget to level up early on defeating zombies. When you are out exploring, after stealing everything from a place, look for enemies to kill them. Some of them will be far away, so make sure to use ranged weapons or get close to kill them to earn a healthy amount of EXP.
#6. Set up a Cooking Station
On your flying ship, it’s always nice to have a cooking station. Since you will be killing a lot of wild animals and monsters, some of them will drop food products upon death. The same goes for stealing and breaking down damaged barrels; you are always going to get a healthy dose of ingredients for cooking. Having a cooking station on board will help you cook the proper meal for your trip.
#7. Don’t forget to upgrade your ship

When you are just starting out, the ship’s traveling speed will be god-awful. It took me literally 15 real-time minutes to get to the starting area from a faraway location. Don’t make the same mistake as I did; upgrade the ship’s core to extend the ship’s speed limit. Add more ship tools to better the ship’s speed to make the travel easier and faster.
#8. Search for Everything and Loot

When you step on a new island, after stealing everything from the point of interest, go around the area. You will find ores, trees, special statues, enemies, new dirt blocks, and more. Every piece of land has something interesting, don’t get out of the land after a surface level exploring. I’ve found some crazy items hidden in the deepest region of a random well.
#9. Retrieve Your Stuff After Death
Once you die, you will drop some of your items on the ground. You can get to the same place and retrieve all the items that you lost. Don’t worry, if you manage to die again in the same spot, the previous death drop will not disappear. No matter how many times you die, you will always have the option to retrieve the stuff. You will see a red skull of death on the HUD, pointing to the spot of dropped loot.
#10. Don’t Rush to the End, enjoy
The game is a slow burn; it will take time getting used to the mechanics. Don’t just go to the end of the horizon to get the best loot; if you are not well prepared, a flying skull could easily one-shot you from a distance. Always prepare with better equipment before reaching higher areas.
Everwind can be a lot of fun. I’ve spent countless hours just exploring empty biomes. Sometimes, I’d get lucky, and I would find better armour, while at other times, I would get poisoned and die in the swamp at night. Play the game at your pace, and you will find many things to enjoy in Everwind.
