While it can be relaxing to have your own ship in Everwind, setting sail to an unknown island at a distance at your own pace, but if the route is long, then you want the ship to move quickly.
Luckily, Everwind does allow the player to upgrade the ship to tweak its speed, altitude, and space for a more immersive ship-building experience.
With enough space, I placed many large cupboards into my ship to get a larger haul from expeditions. The upgrades are crucial to speed up the ship and have more spaces for other objects, such as storage and crafting stations. Here is a complete guide to upgrading your ship in Everwind.
Getting The Upgrades

All ship upgrades are tied to the Flying Ship Core in the middle of the ship. It is the one with the yellow crystal at the top. Interacting with the core gives you the option to upgrade the ship further than its original capacity.
All the equipment on the ship is interlinked with each other. We have an Energy Generator that generates power for the ship. Wooden Engine (Effects speed)and Wooden Balloons (Effects altitude)are attached to the Energy Generator to take its power. If the Energy Generator fails to provide any power, both the Wooden Engine and the Wooden Balloon will stop working.
On the very first ship in the game, you will have a single build set up, we will have a single Energy Generator, a Wooden Engine, a Wooden Balloon, and a Cockpit. After getting the ship’s core upgrades, you can install a second Energy Generator to feed power to two new Wooden Engines and a Wooden Balloon.
All ship upgrades are the first layer of the ship’s improvement. You will need to place the proper ship tools to see its effect. Once you interact with the core, you will get three upgrade options:
- Speed Upgrade:
- Tier 1: +5 Block Speed per Second – x100 Coins/ x15 Forestwood Planks/ x1 Force Crystal Dust.
- Tier 2: +10 Block Speed per Second – x100 Coins/ x15 Forestwood Planks/ x5 Force Crystal Dust.
- Tier 3: +15 Block Speed per Second – x200 Coins/ x5 Sulfur/ x5 Force Crystal Dust.
- Tier 4: +20 Block Speed per Second – x400 Coins/ x15 Sulfur/ x15 Force Crystal Dust.
After getting the speed upgrade, you will need to put the Wooden Engine on the ship to see the speed upgrade effect. Speed upgrade raises the maximum speed cap of the ship, and adding Wooden Engines allows you to see the speed’s effect.
Each tier you unlock, you can add one more Wooden Engine to speed up the ship.
- Size Upgrade:
The starting size is capped at 9x9x9.
- Tier 1: 11x 11×11 (+2 per side) – x50 Coins/ x3 Copper Ingots/ x25 Forestwood Planks
- Tier 2: 15x15x15 (+4 per side) – x75 Coins/ x12 Copper Nails/ x15 Forestwood Planks.
- Tier 3: 21x21x21 (+4 per side) – x75 Coins/ x5 Copper Ingots/ x45 Forestwood Planks.
- Tier 4: 25x25x25 (+4 per side) – x150 Coins/ x5 Copper Ingots/ x60 Forestwood Planks/ x30 Jungle Planks.
Size upgrades expand the overall area on the ship. Pretty simple, you will have more space on the ship to place your stuff. You don’t have to set up additional tools to enjoy the ship’s expansion; unlike the other two upgrades, this one happens instantly.
- Altitude Upgrade:
- Tier 1: 262 Blocks – x100 Coins/ x5 Steamer Metal Scrap/ x1 Force Crystal Dust
- Tier 2: 512 Blocks – x150 Coins/ x5 Steamer Metal Scrap/ x2 Force Crystal Dust/ x5 Mortivar Skull.
- Tier 3: 762 Blocks – x150 Coins/ x5 Copper/ x2 Force Crystal Dust/ x15 Mortivar Skulls.
- Tier 4: 1,012 Blocks – x250 Coins/ x5 Copper Bars/ x5 Force Crystal Dust/ x25 Mortivar Skulls.
Altitude will allow your ship to get to higher places. This upgrade acts in the same manner as the speed upgrade. It raises the maximum altitude cap, but you will need to set up Wooden Balloons to get your ship to a higher altitude.
Where to Find Additional Ship’s Equipment?

While we have the recipe to craft the ship’s parts, we will need its exclusive materials to start crafting. These materials can easily be found in other broken ships in the game.
Take out your scope and look for crashed or abandoned ships stuck on the side of islands. Whenever you come across a crashed ship, you will find a pile of broken ship items; mine them using your axe to get the materials for ship parts.
Note: Crashed ships will have the wrecks that you can salvage; you will not find salvageable parts in ships stranded in the sea.
Other Helpful Tips When Upgrading Your Ship in Everwind
- Speed and altitude need to work together; having more weight without more balloons will imbalance the ship. If you are upgrading speed tier 1, then also upgrade altitude tier 1, so everything runs in balance.
- Rummage through broken ships crashed on the island to find many of the necessary materials required for ship’s equipment crafting.
- After you get the speed upgrade, make sure to have a wooden engine ready to place next to the generator to be able to utilize the speed upgrade.
- Once you have enough space, set up a crafting station and a cooking station for your travel.
- Get the compass upgrade for faster navigation.
