Obsessed with the Paladin fantasy in RPGs? You know the one, using massive weapons to deal big damage, getting empowered by holy energy, and such. Well, this isn’t quite that, but honestly,it’s probably as close as you’re going to get in Elden Ring: Nightreign.
Undertaker is the newest character in Elden Ring Nightreign, and she means business! This class specializes in strength and faith, utilizing heavy weapons and incantations to deal huge amounts of damage.
In addition, compared to the Scholar, she’s pretty new-player-friendly, with abilities that are extremely simple to learn, but complex to master. So let’s take a look at Undertaker and what she brings to the table.
Character Overview

First of all, let’s take a peek at the Undertaker’s stats to see where she really excels:
- Vigour – B
- Mind – C
- Endurance – C
- Strength – A
- Dexterity – D
- Intelligence – D
- Faith – A
- Arcane – C
Looking at the stats, it’s pretty obvious to see where we’re going to take this character. You’re going to want to look out for big, heavy weapons that scale well with Strength. Hammers, Colossal Weapons, even Greatswords can work in a pinch, even better if these weapons scale with Faith, too, like the Envoy Horn weapons.
If you’re not much of a brawler, you can even turn the Undertaker into a bit of a caster build, utilizing incantations from the backline. However, you’re going to want to be careful, as she has a rather poor FP pool, with the C in Mind.
The best way would be to use a bit of both, dashing in and out of combat, throwing lightning, casting buffs and striking with that heavy hammer.
Passive Skill – Confluence

This passive is pretty simple and empowers her Ultimate Art. Whenever a teammate uses their ultimate art, you get a free use of your own.
When your ability circle turns pink, you have around 5-6 seconds to cast your ult before that free charge disappears. If you’re in a team, you can coordinate attacks, so you can use your own ult up to 3 times in a row.
What’s more, if you perfectly dodge an enemy’s grab attack, it will allow additional Ultimate use.
Character Skill – Trance

Activating your Trance skill gives you several powerful buffs:
- Free Stamina refill
- Improved dodge moveset
- Bonus damage and improved combo damage after a set amount of attacks
- Increased damage negation and poise
Yeah, she really just gets a little bit of everything. This ability is quite impressive, as it takes only around 15 seconds to recharge, with an uptime of approximately 8-9 seconds. It makes sense to use this ability as much as you can.
In addition, this can be triggered at any time: in the middle of attacks, while you’re performing your ult or even when you’re being grabbed.

If you really hate dodging attacks, then this is the ability for you. Because of the damage negation effect and the need to get a certain number of attacks in for the extra buff, you might as well just tank the damage and spam your normal attacks on your opponents, instead of playing carefully.
Ultimate Art – Loathsome Hex

Undertaker’s ultimate is pretty simple on paper, though it has some uses that might not immediately seem obvious to first-time players.
When you activate the loathsome hex, Undertaker will fly towards the target enemy, dealing a decent amount of damage and stunning them briefly. As I mentioned previously, you can use this even when on cooldown if your teammate uses their ultimate art nearby.
While it may not do as much damage as other ultimates, the fact that you can use it so frequently makes up for it.
In addition, you can use this ultimate no matter the location of an enemy, so if you’re fighting a dragon, for example, you can target it in the air, to get some serious height, then drop and perform a falling attack for extra damage. Just be careful not to get blocked by pillars or walls, as this will cancel the ability.
Finally, we have the secondary effect of the ultimate. While the gauge is full, you can press Y/Triangle to activate Trance, and then activate your ult in tandem, to upgrade the Trance ability. This will double the length Trance is active, while giving you the ability to auto-dodge incoming attacks.
This doesn’t take the whole Art gauge either, so feel free to pop this while a teammate is down for a free revive.
General Strategies

After looking at all of her abilities, it’s clear that you want to be playing Undertaker as aggressively as possible. While she may not look like a tank, you want to be taking the attention of the enemies so that your backliners, let’s say,a Scholar, can debuff your opposition and keep you healed.
Look out for any strong Strength or Faith scaling weapons to add to your arsenal, as well as added effects that give you damage negation and more physical attack power. Marika’s Hammer is the perfect legendary for Undertaker, so if you ever see it, don’t hesitate.

In terms of relics, as with most of the other characters, some of the most powerful starting relics can be found through the Undertaker’s Remembrance Quest.
The Glass Necklace is a highlight here, increasing attack power every time her ult is used. Additionally, the Monocle case can be great for those who prefer buffing themselves with strong incantations.
If you’re struggling with talismans, anything that boosts main stats like HP and Stamina is great here, or even something like the Bull Goat Talisman to boost poise. Grab any defence-boosting consumables like boiled prawns and crab to benefit you while using Trance, and focus on finishing those combo attack chains.
The Undertaker is ridiculously strong right now. Not only is she simple to play, but she’s easy to play well! She’s extremely beginner-friendly and fun when coordinating with a competent team. You’ll always be happy to see an Undertaker in your team composition!
