Don’t Starve Together: How to Plant Knobbly Trees in Small Spaces

If you are working on a boat base in Don’t Starve Together, then you will require the ultimate protection from the elements. Thats where you can collect Knobbly Trees and grow them into an Above-Average Tree Trunk, offering you better shade, protection from wildfires, and also reduce wetness from rains. The only problem with Knobbly Trees is that they are exclusively water based plants, and they can get really big once fully grown. But if you wish to place them within a smaller water body, this guide will cover how to do that in Don’t Starve Together.

The first step in growing a Knobbly Tree is to collect Knobbly Tree Nuts. You can gather these nuts by locating Great Tree Trunks in the Waterlogged biome and ramming your boat against them. This will drop the nuts, which you can then use a Pinchin’ Winch to pick it up and take back to your preferred place to plant it. For the sake of this guide, we will be looking at small water spaces inland, preferably those that are 6×6. These water bodies can make do with placing just a grass raft in it, hence why we will be using these measurements.

Next, place a grass raft in the water so you get a better leverage to place the Knobbly Tree Nut. Hop off the raft and wait for it to disintegrate, or you can light it up on fire to destroy it quicker. Be sure to extinguish any fire that lands on the nut using Ice Flingomatic or an Ice Staff. Once the raft is destroyed, the seed will drop into the water, and you just have to wait 3 days for it to turn into a Short. Use Tree Jam to speed up the process so you can unlock Above-Average Tree Trunks quickly.

To place Knobbly Trees in even smaller spaces where you cannot place a raft, you will require mods that let you customize boats and raft size. “New Boat Shapes” is a great mod for that, and you can use it to get to even smaller spaces and place the Knobbly Tree Nut. These nuts can grow on any water body, but you need to position them on the water since your character cannot do that personally. Growing Above-Average Tree Trunks will give you 3 Fig Vines and increase your chances of getting a 4th one by 33%.
