Palworld 1.0 – Complete Fishing Guide

Palworld 1.0 has seen plenty of mechanics reworked and even more finalized. Amongst them, fishing is a mechanic that has flown under players radars, even as 1.0 has granted it massive buffs.

Read on for our Palworld 1.0 Complete Fishing Guide, with an explanation of how Palworld’s fishing minigame works, why you should take the time to master it, and where you should spend your bait casting for Pals.

Why Bother Fishing in Palworld 1.0?

First of all, fishing is a great way to catch Pals without Pal Spheres. Every fish shape that you spot while fishing represents one separate Pal. So a pod of 5 fish is 5 potential Pals you can catch without needing any Pal Spheres at all! Alongside the Pals themselves,

Second, every successful catch will net you a few items that can include consumables, resources, and even schematics! The quality of these drops is tied to the level of the area you’re fishing in. For example, fishing in the World Tree can net endgame schematics, while early spots will only offer early bows or equipment.

Fishing is how I found my first Ancient Sphere, and got a way-too-early schematic for a rare Plasma rifle! You can get wildly lucky if you’re willing to put in the work, and it’s a nice change of pace from the standard loop.

If you’re low on Pal Spheres, or just in an area where you can’t beat Pals down in, fishing can net you extra party members or level up chaff nice without the threat of death.

How to Fish in Palworld 1.0

Fishing is tied to a minigame that starts when you aim a fishing pole with bait at a fishing spot. If you cast close enough to a fish outline, the outline will slowly approach before biting. The bite is signified by yellow exclamation points, and that’s your time to click. Do it fast enough, and the minigame will begin!

Once a Pal bites your line, a bar appears on the screen with a fish icon bouncing across it. Your goal is to move a green bar left and right so it aligns with the fish marker. The minigame works like a horizontal version of Stardew Valley’s fishing minigame, if you’ve ever played.

The minigame can be made easier via the quality of your Fishing Rod and Bait. While any Rod and any Bait can catch even the highest level Pals, it can be significantly simplified by upgrading your gear.

Sometimes underwater Pals will be glowing a certain color, each of which represents a different effect.

    • Green sparkles mean the caught Pal will have a rainbow rarity passive.
    • Purple sparkles mean the caught Pal will be a larger Alpha Pal, complete with improved stats.
    • Purple frothing water means the Pal will have the highly sought-after Lurker passive, improving their Ice Damage, Water Damage, and Defense.

While you technically can build a fishing pond for your base, it’s far more worthwhile to head out to good fishing spots manually. Let’s go over some of them now!

Best Fishing Spots in Palworld 1.0

Fishing spots can be found all throughout the world, in most landlocked bodies of water across every island. Once you’ve acquired a rod, you can’t just start casting into any body of water for Pals. Actual fishing spots can be spotted by the shadowy outlines of fish that swim in schools. If you see these fish, you’re at a spot you can fish at.

There are, of course, a few spots that promise better drops for the effort put in. Let’s take a look at just a few.

    Rayne Syndicate Oil Rig

As mentioned earlier, all Oil Rigs are great waterlogged spots to look for fishing loots and Pals, but the Rayne Syndicate Oil Rig is especially worthwhile. Not too far off shore and a sizable level of 55 makes the drops fantastic.

Its uniquely high rate of granting useful fishing rod schematics makes it all the more tantalizing if you plan on pursuing more fishing.

    Sunreach (-379, -1526)

Most bodies of water in Sunreach are great fishing spots, and the high level means the Pals and loot are worth the effort. Hexolite tier gear, equipment schematics, and resources mean you can make runs between Hexolite grinding to net even more for the time spent.

The frozen lake at -379, -1526 is a perfect spot, typically boasting 5~6 floating Pals on every visit. Make sure to lead your routes through this spot on every rotation around the island!

    The World Tree (-1717, 1334)

Easily the biggest bang for your buck, the World Tree is absolutely crawling with Fishing Spots all across its surface. These Fishing Spots can result in pure endgame gear, including Plasma weaponry, best in slot armor, and even Ancient Spheres.

Specific coordinates -1717, 1334 target the middle of a massive series of bodies of water. Looping through these bodies of water will net you dozens of Pals every resource reset.

Across each of its zones, look for shadowy fish while you’re nabbing Mythical Wood and Paloxite. Endgame grinding is all about making the most of your time, so don’t waste any more than you need while you’re in the area!

    How to Make Fishing Easier

Fishing Rods come in 4 tiers, starting at Beginner (Chillet), Beginner (Gumoss), Intermediate (Cattiva), Intermediate (Croajiro), Advanced (Pengullet), and Advanced (Depresso). The first three of each tier can all be found on the tech tree and constructed at a base, while the secondary variants of each Line need to be found via a random schematic drop.

    Fishing RodResource Cost
Beginner Fishing Rod (Chillet)10x Paldium Fragments
    3x Aquatic Pal Fluids

    20x High Quality Pal Oil
    30x Pal Metal Ingots
    20x Carbon Fiber
    1x Coralum Ingot

This schematic can drop from any fishing source, though I had extra luck grinding at the Rayne Syndicate Oil Rig located at coordinates 538, -421. Both the chest and the fishing spot by the Rig have a chance to drop it.

Bait is also craftable and comes in 4 types, all of which come from the tech tree. Standard Simple bait comes with your Beginner fishing set, while High Quality, Deluxe, and Alluring baits all have their own tech unlocks.
