When Minecraft hit peak popularity, we used to joke that the children yearned for the mines. Now, that would constitute a serious violation of labour laws in most countries, but Palworld has found a workaround by putting pets to do the dirty work down in the pits.
With the release of update 1.0 for Palworld on July 10, Pocketpair has introduced some big shakeups to the game’s features, including changes to individual pals and how their attributes stack together.
To help your virtual mining industry keep hitting those performance targets, here are the best pals for mining in Palworld 1.0. Make sure you get them a little Employee of the Month framed picture in the stone pit every now and then; it’s good for morale.
Cattiva

We’re starting small here. Cattiva is a fairly diminutive pink cat lookalike, and while you most definitely don’t want to be reliant on this early game pal forever, Cattiva is a great way to optimise your start.
Cattiva’s mining suitability is complemented nicely by the Partner Skill, which increases the carry weight by 100 (up to 120 when maxed out). You can find Cattiva as early as Lunaris, so use that to kickstart your mining empire.
Mammorest

On the larger end of things accessible to you relatively early, there’s Mammorest. This woolly bully comes with level 4 mining affinities, but most importantly, it is capable of mining everything.
At maximum stats, Mammorest’s mining efficiency tops out at 2000, and as a bonus, this is a rare case where a pal in Cryst flavour can also do logging, making it a great generalist for your base.
Reptyro

Back on the carrying grind, there’s a point to be made about Reptyro. The level 5 mining suitability is complemented nicely by a base ore weight reduction that starts at 30%, going as high as 60% when upgraded properly.
An extra perk for Reptyro is that combining a Cryst variant with a base one stacks this weight reduction, getting condensed ores down to 0 weight. You can use Reptyro as a standalone mining main, or as a pack mule for a faster pal, so long as you don’t mind the food requirements.
Astegon

If Batman is the Dark Knight, Astegon is the dark mining expert. I’ll see myself out. As a dark pal, you can skip the Nocturnal passive and still have Astegon run the night shift at the mine.
A great setup for Astegon is to use them as the main miner, supported by Blazamut Ryu for smelting, and Anubis for crafting. The 9 food requirement is a little steep, so make sure your production chain is up to snuff there before scaling up Astegon mining ops.
Fuddler

Another versatile option to lug ore and stone about is Fuddler, with an 80% weight reduction. As a nice bonus, this perk also applies to meteorites, on top of all other mining products.
Fuddler also increases your mining efficiency by 30%, making it a great generalist pick that can slot into most setups.
Digtoise

The most efficient mining pal in Palworld 1.0 is Digtoise. Thanks to its Drill Crusher partner skill, Digtoise spins around when following others, passively mining without having to burn actives.
With only five food requirements, you get an automated pickaxe that blasts through large rocks in seconds, making it great for hands-off mining and tunnelling.
Rushoar

This and the next entry might be decent on their own, but they really shine when used in a tag team. For getting the mining nodes taken care of, you’ll want a Rushoar.
Available as early as the first boss tower, typically to the west of it, Rushoar is prized for its Reckless Charge neutral active skill. This allows Rushoar to obliterate any mining node in three hits, on top of being a fairly useful combat skill if things get dicey.
Turtacle

Oh bother, your Rushoar mined all this ore, but who can carry it? Meet the humble Turtacle, the answer to all your mining logistical prayers.
Adding a Turtacle to your mining party reduces the ore weight by 80%. By condensing it, you can push this up to 100% for certain materials. Regular Turtacle has this bonus added to Iron Ore, while the Terra variant does the same but to Coal and Sulfur.
Combining Turtacle and Rushoar is simple enough: the Rushoar mines, the Turtacle carries, giving you an output of up to 300 ore per trip when both are maxed out. Turtacle is available around Zoe’s Tower, but you can also happen upon one by fishing once you unlock the first rod.
