That said, there are a handful of builds that I would consider more viable than most, and in this guide, I’ll go over some excellent starting builds that can give you a headstart, or at the very least, avoid getting a game over before you even leave the Whirling-In-Rags for the first time.

After countless playthroughs, this build proved the most effective for uncovering hidden clues and tiny details that often go unnoticed.

Selecting and leveling up your stats is only part of the process. To fully maximize your build’s potential, it’s best to pair it with clothes and thoughts that enhance your stats’ effectiveness.
Since this guide focuses on the Perception skill, equipping the Franconigerian Cavalry Boots and internalizing the Apricot Chewing Gum Scented One thought will grant you an additional 3+ points in Perception.

The unsettling idea that your actions might not truly matter hangs heavily over Disco Elysium. So why not crank up the disco and dance your way through the chaos of Revachol?
By choosing Electrochemistry as your signature skill, you unlock new ways to experiment with drugs and alcohol, turning self-destruction into short-term power.
As dangerous as these habits are, they grant temporary boosts that can save you in desperate, die-or-die moments. This build truly comes into its own later in the game, when leveling slows down and passing difficult skill checks becomes a battle of survival.

For this build, the most important Thought to internalize is Some Kind of Superstar. as it quickly increases the learning cap of Electrochemistry to 6, the signature skill of this build.
Since drug use is a core aspect of this build, dedicating time to internalize Hobocop is also essential. Additionally do not forget to find the Fingreless Gloves early in the game, is it will give another +1 in Electrochemistry, and never take off your Flare-Cut Toursers from the start.

Among all the builds I tried in Disco Elysium, this one easily made me feel the dumbest. And yet, there were countless moments where I knew I would’ve been stuck without these stats.
From confronting Measurehead to breaking down locked doors near the end of the game, this build constantly proved its worth. Choosing Physical Instrument as your signature skill dramatically improves your chances of passing checks tied to raw strength and physical dominance.

Thankfully, focusing on these thoughts doesn’t take much time, and finding the best outfit isn’t that hard either. But remember, failing the Physique checks can damage your health and, in some cases, even lead to a game over.

The majority of these details are locked behind ‘passive checks,’ and the only way to learn them is through this build. After I managed to find the best thoughts to maximize the usage of Enclyclopedia and Intellect build, I rapidly gained Level Up points.
Boosting my XP gain sped up my leveling up and maxing out certain skills that was crucial for this build. I highly recommand getting thoughts as quickly as possible and then explore the game to get the maximum points available.
