Destiny 2 has a habit of dropping unexpected puzzles into its quest areas, and this orb puzzle genuinely felt like I’d stepped into something out of Portal.
I first ran into this mechanic during the mid-sections of the Fire and Ice mission for the Renegades DLC, completely unaware that the four massive Blights in the room were tied to the Balance the Scales objective.
After repeatedly taking down Centurions and experimenting with the orbs they dropped, I finally understood how the system worked.
But my knowledge was tested again once I reached the Disciple of Harrow boss fight. With all the experience I have gathered, I have created a quick and easy guide to solve the orb puzzle in Destiny 2.
Where to Find the Orb Puzzle

Just as the Fire and Ice mission starts, you need to locate the vault. This objective is pretty straightforward; defeat all the enemies at the starting area and find the console to open the Blast Doors.

Enter the portal as part of your next quest objective, but not before clearing the area of enemies first. Pick up the Imbalanced Octant after passing through and navigate the ascendant plane.
That includes going down the hole inside the tower ahead and navigating your way to the end. Don’t forget to do a rerun of this place in legendary mode to collect 7 Oddities for the Echoing Blade Catalyst after obtaining the Praxic Blade.

Once you reach the area shown above, you will spot another Imbalanced Octant. Interact with it and enter the portal to get your next objective: Balance the Scales.
How to Solve the Blight of Darkness and Blight of Light Puzzle in Destiny 2

You will face two orb puzzle encounters while completing the Fire and Ice mission. The first time you encounter this puzzle is while progressing through the quest, and the second time will be during the Disciple of Harrow boss fight.
The orb puzzle will present itself as several large floating orbs in the corners of the map. You got the Blight of Darkness, which are black orbs, and a Blight of Light, which are white orbs.
Your goal to solve the puzzle is to defeat the right combination of Centurions to farm Paired or Opposite Energy orbs for the Blights of Darkness or Blights of Light.
There are two types of Centurion spawns: the Taken and the Imperium. Defeating two of them, either as 2 Takens/Imperiums or 1 Taken and 1 Imperium, will drop either the Blight of Light or Blight of Darkness.
Collecting these orbs will increase the size of the original Blights, and you need to fill them up to complete the puzzle.
Balance The Scales Guide

Once you get to this particular quest objective, you need to clear the puzzle before you get to move on. Below are the steps you need to follow to complete this section.
- Defeating 2 similar Centurions will drop Paired Energy for the Blight of Light.
- Defeating a combination of 1 Taken followed by 1 Imperium, or vice versa, will drop Opposite Energy for the Blight of Darkness.
- After killing an enemy, take note of the text that appears on top of the screen.
- This indicates what type of enemy you have killed first (Taken or Imperium).
- Follow this up by killing your second Centurion, so run around to find another Taken or Imperium by reading their names on top of them.
- Toss the correct orbs into the correct Blights to increase their size. Tossing the orbs into the wrong Blights will decrease their size instead.
- You will know that the Blight puzzle is completed when all Blight orbs have filled their outer rings. Avoid overfilling them, as this will reset the puzzle and also spawn tougher enemies.
How to Spawn Centurions in the Disciple of Harrow Arena

You need to interact with the triangular floating crystals around the arena, called Balanced Octants, to trigger Centurion spawns.
Look around the map to find black crystals floating way above you. You will also spot several floating platforms around the arena to help you get up to these crystals.
The boss area will have two of these crystals, and interacting with them will summon a random number of Taken and Imperium.
The rest of the process of filling up the Blights remains the same; you need to farm orbs from defeating the combination of enemies and toss them at the Blights.
How Good Is The Praxic Blade?

Defeating the Disciple of Harrow will complete the Fire and Ice quest, and you will be automatically transported to the rewards room to claim the Praxic Blade. The Praxic Blade is an Exotic Kinetic Sword which offers the following perks:
- Ranged Weapon Heavy Attack: Once tossed, the Praxic Blade will seek out and hit multiple targets in its path. To recall while midflight, press the Attack button. Hold down the attack button to charge the toss and throw it in the direction of your aim. Releasing the button will recall the Praxic Blade.
- Cormorant Combo: Executes a heavy melee combo if pressing the Heavy Attack button right after completing three light melee attacks.
