Code Vein 2 – Josee the Blind Hero Boss Guide

Josee the Blind Hero is a challenging boss in Code Vein 2 with fast attacks that are difficult to read. It’s the first real “skill check” of the game, requiring patience and a complete understanding of its moveset and weaknesses.

Since Josee the Blind Hero is part of the main quest, players will have to defeat it in order to continue the story. This fact makes the boss even more frustrating as it can completely halt any sort of progression, especially if you have exhausted all of the game’s side content up to this point.

However, after reading this guide, I can assure you that you will be able to defeat this boss once and for all. Here’s how to beat Josee the Blind Hero in Code Vein 2.

    Finding Josee the Blind Hero

Players will encounter Josee the Blind Hero during the “Slaying the Hero Josee” main quest in Code Vein 2. After beating the Metagen Remnant and returning to Josee’s Outpost in the Sunken City, Lou will tell you to interact with the giant cocoon in the middle of the large room.

After interacting with the cocoon, a cutscene will commence, and Josee the Blind Hero will emerge. Once the cutscene concludes, the challenging boss fight will begin. Keep in mind that this fight has two phases, so be prepared for slight changes in its attack patterns about halfway through the boss’s health bar.

Before you start fighting Josee the Blind Hero, you should take the time to fully understand its moveset and attack patterns. This boss is incredibly quick, and making one mistake, such as dodging too late or not blocking, can result in you losing a ton of health.

To get you prepared for the fight ahead, we have created two tables for you in the following sections.

    First Phase

The first phase of the Josee the Blind Hero boss is more challenging than the second phase, surprisingly. It lasts as long as it takes you to bring the boss’s health bar to about half. Check out the moveset below.

    MovesetDescription
Long Range StabIf the player gets too far away from the boss, it will pull its sword back, charge, and stab at the player.
Consecutive SlashThe boss will swipe its sword multiple times, with a slight delay between each swing.
Multiple WebsThe boss will slam its sword into the ground, summoning a series of webs throughout the arena. If hit by this attack, the player will be inflicted with Blind.
Foot StompThe boss raises its foot and stomps on the ground, dealing AoE damage.
Web TossThe boss will summon an orb from its hand and toss blobs of web toward the player. These blobs inflict blind on the player if hit.
Sword SlamThe boss will raise its sword and stab it on the ground three times, dealing AoE damage on each slam.
Single StrikeThe boss will place its sword up against its chest, almost like its guarding, and then strike down toward the player.
Spinning StrikeThe boss will place its sword by its side and then spin in a circle, swinging the sword. This covers a lot of ground.

    Second Phase

Once you enter the second phase of the boss fight, you will have to deal with a few new attacks. The table below details the new attack patterns introduced in the second phase. Keep in mind that the boss still utilizes the same moveset from the first phase on top of these.

    MovesetDescription
Exploding BlobsThe boss will curl up in a ball and rain blobs of Blind down from the ceiling. These explode after a short delay.
Blind StompSimilar to the Stomp in the first phase, the boss will lift its leg and stomp down. This time the stomp will create AoE Blind damage, which will inflict Blind on the player if hit.
Charged SwingThe boss will charge its sword, indicated by a glowing yellow color, and then stomps onto the ground with Blind buildup, before swinging its sword. This swing covers a large area.

How to Beat Josee the Blind Hero

Before we get into how to beat Josee the Blind Hero, let’s talk preparation. Since this boss loves to inflict Blind on the player, it’s important to enter the fight with consumables that can counter this. I recommend bringing De-Snare as it completely cures the blind status ailment.

The good thing about Josee the Blind Hero’s attacks is that almost all of them can be dodged by rolling toward the boss. Keep this in mind during the battle, as it will not only save you from getting hit, but it will also allow you to stay close to the boss so you can constantly deal damage.

Out of all the attacks in this fight, the only one you want to run away from is the Multiple Webs attack from the first phase and the Charged Swing attack from the second phase. I noticed that these are incredibly hard to dodge, so your best bet is to just sprint away when you see the boss about to execute these moves.

It’s best attempt to position yourself at the boss’s backside throughout the fight and strike immediately after dodging its attacks. I found that the hitbox is smaller when behind the boss, decreasing the chances of the boss landing a hit on you.

The absolute best window to deal high damage with Combat Weapon Formae is after the boss uses its Consecutive Slash attack. After the final swing of its sword here, there is a decent-sized window where the boss gets tired, opening up the chance for you to deal as much damage as possible.

Another great chance to deal a ton of damage is during the Exploding Blobs attack in the second phase. During this move, the boss is crouching on the ground, giving you a chance to rush in and use one of your strongest Combat Formae for high damage. Once you see the blobs start to shine, retreat as fast as possible since this indicates that they are about to explode.

If you enjoy using Magic Formae, then make sure to gain some distance from Josee the Blind Hero before using them. The last thing you want to happen is to cast a Magic Formae near the boss, just for him to attack you and interrupt your casting animation.
