There are plenty of fun new mechanics added in College Football 26 that can revolutionize your play pattern. There are tweaks made to the old system to make the defensive and offensive options play better in the game. Newcomers might have a difficult time figuring out most systems and how they play into the game. Here is the guide to all the early tips and tricks for College Football 26.
How To Quickly Master College Football 26
Here we will take a look at all the major aspects and the new changes to the game. Getting familiar with the system is the best way to move forward.
Change the Kicking Control Scheme

Here you get two options: Tap and Hold and Tap and Tap. Once in the game, you will see the kick meter arrow moving left to right. The kick meter dictates the angle of the kick. After choosing the angle, it’s time to power up the kick to throw the ball. You must use the left analog stick to set the direction of the kick.
- Tap and Tap: You press the first tap X or A to set the arrow in the middle of the kick meter, and another tap to power the directional arrow of the kick to throw the ball.
- Tap and Hold: Here you press X or A but hold it, once the directional arrow fills up to the top, let the button go to kick.
With Tap and Hold, you press a single button, X or A, and release it to deliver the kick. The Tap and Tap system has you press two buttons at once.
Set Cross-Play
You can set Cross-Play to play amongst friends on other consoles. Cross-Play can also be found in Dynasty Mode. When you connect to another player via Cross-Play, the other platform may receive your ID and other information, but only to set up Cross-Play.
Learn About Abilities

Head to the More tab next to the Settings, and you will find the option to view Abilities. The list here features both Mental and Physical abilities in the game, ranging from Bronze to Platinum. None of these abilities is customizable; they are predefined by the game. If you are confused about how some of the abilities work, this page is a godsend to help you catch up.

Use Ultimate Team in Practice Mode
You can take your College Football Ultimate team to the Practice Mode by heading to the cut menu and selecting the Play tab. At the bottom of the screen, you will find the option to Practice next to Tournaments. Unlike the Practice Mode available in the Training tab, this Practice Mode allows you to use your Ultimate Team.
View the Celebration Shortcuts
You can view all the shortcut keys for Celebration by pausing the game and heading over to the Celebration option found under the Abilities. Here you will find the buttons for all Celebrations for every interception, touchdown, and first down.

Playart and Audibles

Pressing R2 or RT will allow you to view the Playart of the game. It’s instantaneous, and you will see the outlines of the play that you called. You can further change the play by pressing Square or X to open the Audibles option. Under the option, you can select a different play for the game. Here, you can both Reset Play (L2/ LT) and Flip Play (R2/ RT) under the Audibles option. Pressing the directional pad to the left and right, to view various formations found in the Audibles.
Change Hot Routes for Receivers

You can access the Hot Routes via the Adjust Offense menu by pressing the Right analog stick. The menu will also feature: Audible, Hot Routes, Pass Protection, Show Coach Vision, Fake Snap, and Show Play Art. Hot routes will help you change the routes for wide receivers and running backs available to them without any ability. After selecting Hot Routes via the Adjust Offense Menu, you will have to select a receiver to change their route.
Under WR Hot Routes on any receiver, you are allowed to set up Custom Stem, Smoke Screen, option for Curl, Fade, Post, Drag, Slant, Corner, Sluggo, Deep Diver, Post Sit, Return, and set up a Smart Route. You can view the changes in the game via the Playart button.

Substitute Player In-Game

If you press the Up button on the D-pad, you will open up the Dynamic Subs. Here you can quickly substitute the players from the game without pausing it. On the Dynamic Subs, just press the direction keys to swap the player with another one. Here you will also see the player’s POS, Wear & Tear, Status, and OVR.
Enable Coach Vision
You can press L2/ LT to enable Coach Vision. Once enabled, you will see 4 functions on the left side of the screen and four on the right. On the left, you can pick Defensive and Offensive Lines, LB, QB, RB, and DB. The functions on the right will allow you to see the team’s Composure, Blocking, Matchups, and Wear & Tear.
Set up Pass Protection
Pressing the L1 or Left-Bumper on the controller allows you to open up the Pass Protection menu. Here you can change Full Slide, Empty, and Base with the Left Stick, and Max Protect, Double Team, and Half Slide on the Right Stick. Here you will also find a few options: ID the Mike and a brand new feature: Untarget Defender. It’s basically making your offensive line focus on the rest of the players without worrying about a specific player.
- Untarget Defender: Once you select the Untarget Defender option, you have to select the player on the field with whom you want to activate this function. On the screen, you will see a yellow triangle with a fire icon in its center. Placing the triangle on the player will make them an Untarget Defender.
Make Coach Adjustments

On your Play Calling screen, press the Right Analog Stick to bring up the option to Coaching. You can make coaching adjustments to both Offense and Defense. The coaching option for Defense will be more in-depth compared to the offense. The Coaching Adjustment (Offense) allows you to make changes to: Tempo Adjustment, Deep Pass Catching, Intermediate Pass Catching, Blocking, and Ball Carrier. You can change the settings on all of its functions: Normal, Balanced, Conservative, and Aggressive. You will also see the pros and cons of each function on the right panel.
This panel also introduces a new function called Substitution to keep track of Wear & Tear stats for QB, Halfback, Wide Receiver, Tight End, and Offensive Line. You will also get the Substitution option on the defensive side. On the defensive side of Coaching Adjustment, you have two new functions, Safety Width and Safety Midpoint.
Adjust Defense
You can also press the Right Analog Stick to pull the Adjust Defense menu, but unlike Adjust Offense, in Adjust Defense, you will gain access to a new feature, Coverage Adjustments. Here, you have access to extra controls to move around your defense based on their positions. You can also make a Quick Adjustment by pressing the Triangle. With Quick Adjustment, you can set up any defensive player to Outside Third, Cloud Flat, Soft Squat, Man Coverage, Outside Quarter, Deep Half, and Blitz with the Left and Right Analog Stick.
