Most games are getting the movie treatment, and of course, Call of Duty is falling under this money-making spell. But when it comes to the famous franchise, it is interesting to note that usually Call of Duty is the one inspired by war movies and other events rather than the other way around. There’s also the valid criticism that Call of Duty hasn’t been rich in the plot area.
But one thing that no one predicted is that Peter Berg, the director in charge of the Call of Duty movie, has an interview dated back to 2013 where he lays it out flat that he’s a bad choice for any videogame adaptation. The interview was found out by the internet sleuths, and frankly, they should raise awareness on a very interesting and unfitting opinion for someone about to direct a COD movie.
“Pathetic. Pathetic. Keyboard courage. Can’t stand it. The only people that I give a Call of Duty get-out-of-jail-free card to is the military. They’re out there serving and they’re bored and they want to entertain themselves? Okay, maybe. Kids? Uh-uh,” is what the director said.
Is There Hope for the Call of Duty Movie?

Well, I would prefer someone handling the Call of Duty movie to be into the games or at least some of them. Had Berg said something like not liking the recent direction of Call of Duty or wanting to go a specific direction which COD has gone before, there may have had an interesting idea, but now we’re clearly the losing end here. No one really wants a COD movie, and now the fans are stuck with someone who clearly wouldn’t want to be holding a controller to play the game.

Peter Berg, the “public advocate of American manhood” as Esquire dubbed him in the interview, also went on to add about his hangouts with Navy SEALs, how he lectures gamer SEALs on how to ditch video games and live life to the fullest.
“Some of them do. But I tell them I think it’s pathetic. I think anyone who sits around playing video games for four hours… It’s weak. Get out, do something.” He continued. Well, I know plenty of people which would benefit from blowing steam in a video game, but clearly I’m not the one directing the Call of Duty movie. Also, he didn’t provide any context on to what they should do, so I guess we’re supposed to soul-search on his meaning of life too, which seemed to be rage baiting COD fans.
Well, looks like someone chose a big paycheck instead of actually liking the source material. I mean, we’ve all done things for a monthly salary, but choosing to create art solely for the cash is missing the point.
