The Minecrawler Nest quest in the Gothic Remake is a game-changer, as completing it will open up the mines and let players unlock some nice loot and head deeper underground to progress the story. However, it’s a long-winded questline and one that’s full of danger.

Below, we’ll go through the questline in detail so you know how to complete it. This way, you can clear the mines of Minecrawler monsters and move through them safely. Remember, Minecrawlers are tough, so only take on this quest when your character is powerful enough to take them down with ease.

    Item Requirements

Before you get going, here are the items you’ll need before you can complete the Minecrawler Nest questline.

    • Swampweed: You will need some Swampweed to recruit the Templars in the middle of the questline. You can buy Swampweed from Balor in the Swamp Camp.
    • Torch: A must, since we are heading down a mine, which is covered mostly in darkness; having a torch will help you immensely.

    Starting the Minecrawler Nest Quest

Head to the Swamp Camp located all the way east of the Old Camp. Now get inside the building, the southeastern section of the Swamp Camp, marked on the map above. And you will find our NPC Cor Kalom by the desk.

Now talk, and he will give you the task of informing Cor Angar about finding templers in the mine. We have our first objective in the quest, which is to find Cor Angar to continue with the rest of the quest.

Finding and Talking to Cor Angar

Gothic 1 Remake Cor Anger NPC Location on Map
Image via TheGameSlayer | THQ Nordic

You will find Cor Angar, west of the building where we had a conversation with Cor Kalom. I have marked the hut on the map to help you track down Cor Angar easily. Here, Cor Angar will begin talking about how you have the focus stone. But he refuses to let us into the mines unless we take down Gor Na Dun, a soldier working for Cor Angar. Defeating Gor Na Dun is the only way to gain access to the mines.

Now, agree to fight him to earn your entrance and prove to the Cor Angar that you can handle the Minecrawlers. Turn around from Cor Angar and find Gor Na Dun near the circular area. Fight and defeat him, and he will be knocked back on the ground. After defeating him, talk to him; only then will Cor Angar accept your win.

Note: Cor Angar will refuse to talk to you if you didn’t talk to Gor Na Dun after defeating him.

Now talk to Cor Angar, and he will give you permission to look for Lester in the Old Mines.

    Find Lester in Old Mines

The Old Mines are located northwest of the Old Camp on the map. I have highlighted the spot on the map to help you track it down easily. Lester is located deep in the mines; finding him will take time. Follow the steps to find Lester in the mines.

    • From the entrance of the mines, head straight, follow the linear path until you arrive in an open area with a wooden bridge right in front of you. I will recommend following the mine rail tracks on the ground to the destination.

    • Once you make it to the open area, take the wooden bridge on the left, as shown in the picture. After you cross the bridge, take the path on the right, go through the hangout spot for the guards, and head down the slope to reach the lower section.
Gothic Remake Mines Navigations Part 2
Image via TheGameSlayer | THQ Nordic
    • Now turn right and follow the wooden platform with torches on both sides, leading to the lower region. Once you are on the lower floor, head down the slope, and keep moving forward until you reach the spot with a ladder leading to the bottom floor.

Image via TheGameSlayer | THQ Nordic
    • Here, again, follow the wooden platform on the side of the rock and head down the bridge, and then take the next bridge on its left. Now you will have two people talking to your right; avoid that route; instead, take the route on the left. Take another left and head down the slope with the yellow bulbs on the side. You can follow the lights to lead you to the lower floor.

Image via TheGameSlayer | THQ Nordic
    • Once you make it to the lower region, the area will be filled with blue crystals. Take the path to the right, head down the slope, pass the ladder on the right, and keep moving forward. Then take the wooden slope on the left, and you will find Lester on your right, near the half-open large gate.

Talk to Lester, and he will talk about the crawlers on the other side of the large gate. Unfortunately, the gate is blocked by the rubble, so you can’t access the area on the other side. In the meantime, Lester will ask you to look for the Templars. He would also mention Asghan, the warder, another NPC, and ask us to sweet-talk him to gain access to the deeper areas of the mines.

    So we have two objectives:

    • 1: Find Three Templars for aid
    • 2: Talk to Asghan the Warder

    Talking to Asghan

You will find Asghan quite literally behind Lester, so head up on the back of Lester and talk to Asghan. He will refuse to do anything about the problems with the gate, as the rubble is keeping the crawler away from the mines.

But the only way he would change his mind is by getting Ian’s permission. We now have a new objective, which is to convince Ian to give us permission to enter the Nest section of the Old Mines.

Finding All Three Templars in Old Mines

The three Templars we will need to recruit are:

    • Templar #1: Gor Na Kosh
    • Templar #2: Gor Na Vid
    • Templar #3: Gor Na Bar

Gor Na Kosh and Gor Na Vid are found in the same camp, but Gor Na Bar will be in a different location, far away from the camp.

From Asghan, turn around, head straight, and drop down from the ledge. Now, move up the slope on the right, and it will lead you to a camp surrounded by five or six people, two of them are the Templars.

    • Hire Gor Na Kosh: Here, talk to Gor Na Kosh and ask him to help you fight the crawlers. He will agree to join you in the battle with little resistance.
    • Hire Gor Na Vid: Now talk to Gor Na Vid to join you in battle, but he will ask for Swamp Fumes ingredients. Handing the fumes will help you hire him for your party.
Gothic 1 Remake Templar Gor Na Bar Location Route
Image via TheGameSlayer | THQ Nordic

Take the wooden slope on the left of the camp to the upper region. Here, the route on the left will be blocked by a single guard, but the route to the right will be open.

Note: Remember this spot, near the Guard, we will be coming back to the spot later on for another related quest, ‘Cog on the Wheel.‘

Take the route on the right; it’s fairly linear, so keep heading forward, and you will come across two people engaged in a conversation outside of a cave. One of those people is Gor Na Bar.

    • Hire Gor Na Bar: When you ask him to join you against crawlers, he will want you to prove your strength by handing him over x4 Minecrawler Mandibles to recruit him.
    • Head inside the mine behind him, kill the Minecrawlers, loot their corpses, and you will have x4 Minecrawler Mandibles. Hand them over to the Gor Na Bar to hire the last Templar.

    Talking to Ian

Now that we have all the templars ready to fight, it’s time to get permission from Ian. From the mine, where we slayed the Minecrawlers, turn right and head up the wooden bridge. Here you will find a route on your left and another one to your right. Take the path on the left, as shown in the image above.

Soon, you will find another fork in the road, but if you look to your left, you will find many NPCs in a group discussion around a table. One of the NPCs is Ian; talk to him about his permission to remove the rubble to clear the Minecrawler Nest.

Unfortunately, he will not hand over the permission easily; he will ask us to find a replacement Cog. This will start a new quest, Cog in the Wheel.

Completing Cog in the Wheel Quest

Image via TheGameSlayer | THQ Nordic

Objective: The quest is simple; we must retrieve a Cog found in the Old Mine and hand it over to Ian to complete the quest and get the permission for the Minecrawler Nest.

Now make your way back to the spot with the guard that we encountered on the route to Gor Na Bar. Head behind the Guard, move forward until you reach a ladder to the lower section. At the bottom, you will find the cog, but it will be surrounded by Minecrawlers. Before you drop down the ladder, kill all the minecrawlers first.

Just take out your bow and start hitting them with the arrow, and they will go down easily. I would recommend cleaning the entire area before moving forward.

Tip: While these Minecrawlers can be difficult to see in dark areas, a useful way to track them down is by listening to the hissing sound they make.

Once every minecrawler in the area is dead, head down there and retrieve the cog. Before heading back, loot everything you find in the area. There is a small area right across the ladder.

Here, you will find Mistcap, Raven Herbs, and Essence of Dexterity. Now get back on the ladder and make your way back to Ian to get the permission. Ian will also offer Ore Nuggets x25 as a reward for retrieving the cog.

Unfortunately, Ian will refuse to abide by his words, as he will refuse to give us permission to work the mine’s nest.

Meet With Lester and his Group

Gothic 1 Lester Group Follow Objective

Head back to Lester; he won’t be in the last spot. You will find him right at the entrance of Old Mines. So get out of the mines and then talk to Lester at the gates.

After talking to Lester, the next objective will be to follow him to meet another group of people. Just follow Lester, and you will get to the nearby riverfall area, where you will meet with Diego, Milten, and Gorn.

Gorn will pitch the idea of blowing up the blue crystals in the mines, and he will hand over the Explosive Barrel to carry out the task. Milten will give you an Explosion Scroll to blow the barrel. And lastly, Diego will talk to Ian about the permission.

The next objective is to follow Diego until he stops at the Mine’s entrance, where he will have a conversation with Ian. We will see a small cutscene where Diego managed to convince Ian to give us permission to take care of the Minecrawler Nest.

Make your Way Back to Asghan

Gothic 1 Remake Heading Back to Asghan in Old Mine
Image via TheGameSlayer | THQ Nordic

Asghan and Lester are found in the same place where we interacted with them for the first time in the Old Mine. You can go to the earlier section, “Find Lester in Old Mines“, to find him in the mines quickly.

Talk to Asghan, and we will tell him about the permission we received from Ian. Now you are ready to blow up the rubble to open up the gate. Do note that once you blow the debris, the Minecrawlers will come out. So make sure you’re ready before triggering the explosion.

Once ready, start the explosion, and a cutscene will trigger the rubble on the gate to blow up. Minecrawlers will come out of the open gate and kill all of them. After the battle is over, Asghan will let us know that we must carry forward all alone without any templars by our side. Now head inside the gate into the Minecrawer’s Nest.

    Inside the Minecrawler’s Nest

Gothic Remake Minecrawler NEst Entrance FIght
Image via TheGameSlayer | THQ Nordic

The entrance of the Minecrawler’s Nest will have the appearance of a common cave, but as you venture deep into the nest, you will start seeing webbing, broken eggs, and veins all around the narrow route. The nest is a linear place with sprawling Minecrawlers all around. Here are the tips for surviving the onslaught of Minecrawlers:

    • Plant the Torch: I will highly recommend putting the torch on the ground so you can light a section, where you do your killing. Don’t place it right under the Minecrawler; keep the distance, place the torch on the ground, then you deal with them.
    • Range Attack: To be on the safer side, use the bow to kill the Minecrawler at a distance. If you are coming to your location, turn around and make some distance before using the bow. In short, always maintain a distance when you enter combat with the bow. Bow will keep you from harm’s way.
    • Sound: The second you get closer to Minecrawler-infested areas, you will start hearing hissing and insect noises. Once you hear the sound, it’s time to place the torch and ready your bow for some damage. If you hear the sound, it means the Minecrawler knows about your presence, and they are coming at you in a few seconds.
    • Material Looting: Each kill, you will have a corpse on the ground. Loot the corpse before moving forward. The nest will also have blue rocks around most corners. Loot them to get the Mistcap item. You will find plenty of Mistcap and Minecrawler’s Mandibles.

Note: You can’t blow up the blue crystals, unlike what we did in the cutscene.

That’s it, keep the tips in mind, and you will make it to the end of the area, where you will have to deal with the Minecrawler Queen.

    Minecrawler Queen Boss Fight

The boss has two stages; the second phase triggers when the queen’s HP is down to 50%. One of the unique aspects of the phase is the queen’s movement, which stays idle in the first phase, and not so much during the second one. Your game’s difficulty is also going to have a strong influence on the boss’s attack damage.

    First Phase

Gothic 1 Remake Minecrawler Queest First Phase Appearance
Image via TheGameSlayer | THQ Nordic
    • Claw Swings: If you are closer to the queen, then she will start swinging her claws. Here, perform a block to defend yourself from the deadly damage.
    • Web Ball Spit: If you make distance from her, she will start spitting web balls out of her mouth at your location. It’s a direct fire, so perform a dodge to avoid them.

The first phase contains these two attacks. Once you bring the queen’s HP down to 50%, the lower part of her body will get busted open. And she will run deeper into the nest.

    Second Phase

Gothic 1 Remake Minecrawer Queen Second Phase
Image via TheGameSlayer | THQ Nordic

Once you reach deeper into the nest, you will enter the battle arena, where the true boss fight will take place. Minecrawler queen will let out a screech or a roar to start the battle. Do note, unlike the first phase, she will move around the arena in the second phase.

    • Claw Slam: Minecrawler will slam both of her claws at her front into the ground, creating a shockwave. You can see the animation coming, as she will lift her claws into the air to prepare for a slam. Take this time to avoid the attack range, to be on the safe side.
    • Swing Claws: Instead of swinging her claw once during the first phase, the second phase has her swinging both of her claws in a combo fashion.
    • Web Ball Spit: Just like in the first phase, if you distance yourself from her, she will start spitting web balls at your location. Again, it’s a direct attack, and those web balls will come straight to your body. Dodge them or hide behind the corner to avoid them completely.

That’s it, once you defeat the boss, collect the loot. You will get Queen’s Pheromone Gland (In-game Trophy)/ Minecrawler’s Egg x4/ and a glossary update notification about Minecrawler.

Note: If you are a ranged character with a bow, you can cheese the fight from a distance by hiding behind the corner of the boss’s entrance section. Just lean out the corner to shoot an arrow or use any spells in your possession. The only attack you should be cautious about is the Web Spit balls. Hiding behind the cover will help you block out the incoming damage.

    Heading Back to Cor Kalom

Now that we have Minecrawlers eggs, head back to Cor Kalom in Swamp Camp. Back to where it all began, get inside the Hut, and you will find he is not alone in the room. We also have Y’Berion talking to Cor Kalom. Second, you get close, the dialogue cutscene will trigger, and our hero will hand over the eggs to complete the Minecrawler Nest.

You will get a reward of +2500 experience points and a nice glossary entry.
