Mortal Shell 2 has a few NPC quests that feel less like proper quests and more like characters with surprise functions. Enter Egon, a massive man found down in Mammon who has gorged himself to titanic size off of offerings of Gloom.
While the first thought that entered my head may also enter yours: “Can I smack this guy and make some Gloom?”, sadly, the answer is no. Luckily, Mortal Shell 2 offers up a nice little return on investment if you’ve got pockets bursting with Gloom.
Allow me to show you how to handle the bound lord of Mammon, while making a pretty penny in Gloom on the side.
Finding Egon

Egon doesn’t have a Beacon directly next to him, so you’ll need to hoof it a bit to find him. Residing down in the much tougher region of Mammon, Egon’s closest Beacon is Castigor’s Keep, high on the battlements of his castle.
Descend down the stairs directly across from the Beacon and hang right, running past the gaggle of enemies on both sides. Maneuver on the makeshift wooden platforms around the Keep until you’re within a large courtyard with an item in the center.
The tower in the upper left of the courtyard is crumbling, forming a ramp that leads to a series of platforms. Follow these platforms to come face-to-face with Egon, Lord of Mammon and trapped glutton. You’ve found the man, but what to do with him?
Using Egon

When speaking with Egon, he’ll demand tribute in the form of Gloom. This is a hard ask, as Gloom is used as a special currency and source of XP. Trust me though, it’s worth it. You’ll notice that Egon has an upper limit of 10,000 Gloom that he can accept, and that’s the goal.
If you can reach that amount, either in one drop or multiple, Egon will gorge himself to death, doubling your Gloom in return. This is an incredibly easy-to-use method for making a Gloom profit fast, and while you’re building towards the total, you can use Egon has a bank for Gloom!
Mammon is a dangerous region, especially if you tempt fate and head down early as I did. Having a point I could run in, deposit some Gloom safely, then go hog wild on attempts was a huge weight off my shoulders, and I can’t recommend it enough while you have Egon.
Like I opened the article, Egon is more of a function than a questline, a bank with serious returns once you hit that 10,000 Gloom threshold. Don’t feel bad either; Gloom seems to be some kind of soul juice in Mortal Shell 2, and I don’t trust a noble who literally gorged himself on his people’s souls. I’ll take his money, though, and you should to!
Once you’ve got the extra Gloom for leveling, why not head to the hidden Desolate Keep dungeon locked within the Marrow Keep itself? Too exciting? People all across the world in Mortal Shell 2 need your help, and that can be as simple as breaking a lock.
