Directive 8020 is the latest chapter in The Dark Pictures Anthology and features a group of astronauts getting stalked, killed, and replaced (The Thing style!) by creepy alien parasites. Of course, you can save the main cast, but some of them will meet this fate if you’re not careful.
In Chapter 7, the team will get separated from the ship’s Science Officer, Anders and will need to navigate a storm to save her. The aliens take advantage of the confusion and try to replace the real Anders with a duplicate who they hope will be taken back to Earth.
So, to get the best ending and save everyone, you’ll need to rescue the real Anders and avoid bumping into the fake. Here’s how to save Anders in Directive 8020, Chapter 7.
Finding the real Anders in Chapter 7
Use your scanner to follow the trail until the path gets blocked by rocks, and the “Find Another Way Around” objective will trigger.
Take the path to the right, following Young until a cutscene plays out. When you’re back in control, check your scanner to see that the path has divided into two.
If you take the wrong one, then you’ll end up taking a hostile alien home to Earth, and the real Anders will die. So, follow the path on the right to be led to the real Anders.
You’ll also start receiving messages from the fake Anders, so it’s pretty easy to determine which is the real one, even without knowing the right path. Once you rescue Anders and head into Chapter 8, the fake will be stranded on the planet.
Of course, in order for Cernan to make it to Chapter 7 to rescue Anders, he’ll need to survive his encounter with Williams, this way he doesn’t end up like the crew members who always die.
