Throughout your journey in Nioh 3, you will meet plenty of characters who offer valuable rewards, side quests, and interesting stories. While most of these characters are discovered through natural progression, there are some that are hidden away in secret locations.
One example is Tatsumaro the Dung Lover, a character that can go completely undetected through your entire journey of Nioh 3. The surprising part is that he is right under your nose the entire time, hidden away in the Eternal Rift.
If you have heard of this mysterious character and are looking to find him, we have you covered. Here’s how to reach Tatsumaro the Dung Lover in Eternal Rift.

Finding Tatsumaro the Dung Lover in Eternal Rift in Nioh 3

Before we get into how to find Tatsumaro the Dung Lover in Eternal Rift in Nioh 3, it’s important to go over a couple of prerequisites that you must complete in order to reach him.
First, you must unlock the Breaking Rocks method of traversing Spirit Veins, which is acquired after defeating Takeda Shingen in Warring States. Additionally, you must complete the Putrid Paradise quest in the Heian era. If you don’t complete this quest, Tatsumaro the Dung Lover will not appear in the Eternal Rift.

After you complete the two steps mentioned above, you can officially reach Tatsumaro the Dung Lover. To find him, head to the Blacksmith shop and go to the back right corner to find a ladder leading down to the underground.

Next, you will find a giant boulder in the corner of the room that can be broken by using the breaking rocks Spirit Vein method, so go ahead and do that. This will reveal a hole in the ground, leading further underground.

Lastly, drop down to the bottom of this new area to find Tatsumaro the Dung Lover in the corner of the cave. Feel free to explore this area further as there is a treasure chest nearby.

Tatsumaro the Dung Lover Rewards
Speaking to Tatsumaro the Dung Lover in Eternal Rift can earn you valuable rewards, as long as you have the items he is looking for. Exchanging Dung Ball’s and Noble Dung Ball’s will result in him handing over some useful rewards, though not all the time.
For example, after I handed over a total of 5 Dung Balls, he finally gave me the Horned Turban Helmet Smithing Text. There’s no determining the exact amount of Dung Balls he requires for each reward but just make sure to continuously bring him Dung Balls as you progress through the game.
After bringing enough Dung Balls to Tatsumaro, he will eventually give you a key to the gate blocking the chest at the top floor of the Blacksmith. This chest contains high value equipment, so I definitely recommend opening it as soon as possible.
Dung Balls are randomly dropped from enemies, so feel free to farm a lower-level region to quickly defeat as many enemies as possible in an attempt to get more.
