As you explore the world of Nioh 3, you’ll encounter Spirit Veins, glowing particles in the environment that allow you to reach hidden areas. However, in order to use a Spirit Vein, you need to have the correct Guardian.
There are six different types of Spirit Veins in Nioh 3, each requiring a different Guardian. Unlocking each method of Spirit Vein traversal will earn you the Unimpeded Trophy, one of the many achievements in the game.
If you’re a completionist and are looking to 100% the game, you will need to earn the Unimpeded Trophy. Read further to discover how to unlock all methods to traverse Spirit Veins in Nioh 3.

Unlocking All Methods to Traverse Spirit Veins in Nioh 3

Exploring the various maps of Nioh 3 will lead you to Spirit Veins that you can’t interact with due to not having the correct Guardian. While you can find all types of Spirit Veins early in your playthrough, it turns out that you can’t even interact with most of them until later in the game.
Unlocking each method to traverse Spirit Veins is tied to main story progression. Each time you reach a new region or reach a pivotal moment in the main quest, you will earn a new Guardian that comes equipped with a new way to traverse Spirit Veins.
Here’s how to unlock each Guardian that rewards a method of traversing Spirit Veins in Nioh 3:
- Enko (Wall Run): Acquired after defeating Jakotsu-baba in the first Crucible.
- Kongojishi (Break Rocks): Acquired after defeating Takeda Shingen, the final boss of Warring States.
- Kurama Tengu (Wall Jump): Acquired after defeating Great Tengu, the first boss of Heian.
- Oh (High Jump): Acquired after beating Minamoto no Yoritomo in the third Crucible.
- Nekomata (Water Run): Acquired after returning to the Edo period after defeating Gozuki.
- Shami-choro (Grapple Hook): Acquired after beating Takosugi Shinsaku in the Bakumatsu period.
The way they appear above is the same order that you’ll unlock them throughout the game.
How to Find Spirit Veins

Luckily, Nioh 3 makes it easy to find Spirit Veins, as they are marked on your in-game map. If a Spirit Vein has a locked symbol, this means that you don’t have the correct method of traversal to use that Spirit Vein.
As you unlock the correct Guardians to use Spirit Veins in different ways, an exclamation point will appear next to the newly unlocked Spirit Veins on your map. This makes it easy to know which ones you couldn’t access before, and now you can.
I recommend completing Spirit Veins as soon as possible once you’re able to do so. Some of the Spirit Veins have led me to Exotic equipment, Skill Texts, Soul Cores, and numerous collectibles that have helped upgrade my character.
